THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER Martin Becker, as the lead in The Man Who Came To Dinner was a very remarkable Sheridan Whiteside. Mar- tin, as a sudden replacement in the title role, learned his part well in two weeks. As a biting British author, he whipped out his lines with convincing maturity and delightful wit. Mr. Whiteside, a dinner guest who breaks his hip and extends his dinner engagement to a three-week stay at the Stanley home, wears well on his host's nerves but de- lights the Stanley son and daughter, Richard and June, and the audience with sophisticated comedy. The entire cast did an able job of presenting the first three-acter. Among roles long to be remembered are those of Terry Jones as Banjo, a Hollywood actorg Cindy Charusch as choir directorg Maggie Cutler as Mr. White- side's secretaryg Jeanie Swanson as Harriet Stanley, the eccentric sister of the hostg and Miss Preen, Mr. White- side's tongue-lashed nurse. Mr. Ralph Bielenberg directed the play: Marsha Schwam was the student director. Commotion in the Stanley household was commonplace, especially during the radio broadcast given by Mr. Hfhiteside. Mr. Bielenberg gives directions at one of the long rehearsals for A Man Who Came To Dinner.
