it took a lot of time and thought to do that which we knew we ought. to dedicate this book to YOU is the thing we wish to do. to symbolize the students here cmd all the things which they hold dear is our aim in this year's book- the '59 barrister with the modern look. a record of all the things YOU've done, all the dances, all the fun, all the games and sports nights, too, all the assemblies staged for YOU, a chance to look lbackl at the year gone by a chance to know your marshall high, is what these pages each contain a year in memory to remain. this book, prepared by very few, is sincerely dedicated to YOU!!

a famous recruiting poster for the armed forces once depicted uncle sam pointing at the viewer under the caption i need you. regardless of where an individual might be standing, the long forefinger seemed to be pointed directly and exclusively at him. this issue of the barrister with its theme of YOU is like the poster for it points inquiringly at you concerning the extent of your responsibility for the success of the activities portrayed therein. to what degree have you contributed to the building of the academic and citizenship standards of the school? how much have you given to its worthy activities? how much greater would be the fame of iohn marshall high school if you had done your best? these are some of the questions which i hope you will bear in mind as you review the annals of one of the most successful years in the history of our school. w. bruce kirkpatrick
