W'59 A10 VOLUNTEERS Service is their byword S'59 A10 VOLUNTEERS the volunteers, the 10th grade service organization, is the first step in service to marshall. under the direction of mr. edward dobrian, the members earn service points by selling coke, candy, and programs. they also act as promoters for many of our activities and are responsible for the colorful posters seen around school.

Dintrone. the colonials, a girls service or- ganization, was founded in 1956 by mrs. adeline richardson. it has rapidly become as much a part of our school as any one of the older organizations. the purpose ofthe colonials is to give senior b girls an opportunity to be of serv- ice to marshall. the girls are chosen on the basis of citizen- ship, scholarship and service. all work their hardest since only half of them are chosen to become minute maids. the group begins each semester by serving at the b1O orientation and from then on works on various other activities throughout the school year such as cotton and cord day, service at various banquets, a commun- ity service project, and work in the attendance and counselors offices. this group was led by miss dorothy rakestraw and, since december, 1958, mrs. adeline richardson sponsored the organi- zation. the continentals is the llth grade service organization. the members of this organization consist of those hard-working llth grade students who have been out- standing in the volunteers. some of the members act as hall guards during noon, while others work in the cafeteria during nu- trition and lunch in order to earn service points. as a group they sponsored and decorated for the sadie hawkins dance. some of their activities included working on a cotton and cord booth, sell- ing candy and hot dogs for games and sports nights, and service proiects. they worked hard throughout the entire school year under the sponsorship of mr. morton razowsky.
