N me semors join NHS eing a senior National Honor Society member meant having to keep your grades up in order to collect the last credits for graduation and wear that collar at com- mencement. But being in NHS meant work- ing extra hard. Seniors had to keep an 87.5 average and participate in community activities. Members helped a needy family at Thanksgiving with a food basket. Bake sales after school were held to raise funds for this project. In 1984 nine new seniors were inducted into National Honor Society. They included John Briones, Mimi Mickan, Debbie Styers, Lilian Gutierrez, Sylvia Mendoza, Jeff Davenport, Kathy Strus, Marilyn Gripper and Ray Kesler. Officers were John James, president, Ed- die Cardenas and Mike DeFrees were vice presidentsg Shauna Lyn, secretary and Olga Sanchez, treasurer. Sponsors were Mrs. Nelda Andrewartha and Mrs. Lurlene Adams. For all their hard work, NHS seniors are rewarded by being able to wear their white collars at graduation and stand out from all the rest.
