Students Win Awards he Drafting department instructed by Mr. Jerry Girard was split up into three different courses. First step in receiving experience for architectural work was General Drafting. ln this course begin- ners dealt with free hand sketching of houses, geometric shapes such as angles to line up walls with floors. Students also learn- ed howto design a picture view of a house to fit their plans, they also studied how to make elevations and basic house plans. ln a student's second year they enrolled in Architectural Drafting I. In this course students sketched more elaborate residen- tial plans following city codes. The students developed complete floor plans not only the external but internal design as well. If a student wanted to get into Architec- ture after graduation, they would proceed to this course Architectural Drafting II. In about five students went into a very detailed plans of offices, shopping centers and malls. the use of Their instruction also entailed algebra and trigonometry to be sure every detail of their plan was complete. At the end of the year, some of the students made models of their plans. Mr. Girard's Drafting and Architectural classes participated in the Alamo Area In- ' ' Phillips Col- dustrial Arts Competition at St. lege. Approximately 15 students par- ticipated bringing home 17 awards. Winning Stallings, rchitectural first place awards were Jimm scale model, Steve Allen, drawings, Steve Bradley, written exam, Daniel Guerrero, mechanical drawing. l ning second place awards were Allen Dan Kammerzell, architectural drawi David Wright, written examg and Rol Garcia, mechanical drawing. Winning t place awards were Allen and Kammer architectural drawings, Keith Collins, sp drawing, Robert Merenden, written ex Richard LaVan and Armando Bus mechanical drawings.
