Thanks, at least in part, to this class of '75. Yours is a class with which l have a special bond. l arrived at john lay with those of you entering the ninth year in September of 1971. You therefore constitute my first full generation of jaybstudents Now you are leaving as graduates. I think l will stay on -I can't ever seem to make graduation.f' As I write this in january, I can't say that the larger community you will be entering looks particularly at- tractive. And it's not just the bleakness of winter. We have had good times, high prices and high employ- ment before, and we have had bad times, low prices and unemployment. But, now we seem have man- aged to pull off, perversely, what has been that most difficult economist's trick: a unique combination of both inflation AND recession - both high prices AND unemployment. And we don't have any easy an- swers . . . Hopefully, when you read this in june the summer sun will have dispersed some of these clouds. Wheth- er it's higher education or the work world for you, may bright skies light the way. Cordially, Abraham H. Venit Principal 2 .'-' L IF ..v5 -hr Dr Robert L Sears . . CMAJ-vw... g , 1 ,ar One of the most successful pro- grams currently being run in john lay is the Peer Tutoring Program, formerly Homework Helpers. Its purpose, as the title states, is to have students tutor students, thereby al- lowing them to learn in a comfort- able one-to-one atmosphere. In charge of the program are Mr. Ron Mannarino, Mr. Anthony Aweeky and Mr. Bob Nuss. The entire pro- gram itself, however, is a city-orien- tated one, funded by the Board of Education. a- S. , l rf! Mr. jesse Lazarus, the leader of the leaders, ran an informal, yet interesting and informative class. The class learned about contemporary problems facing lead- ers from many walks of life, a marine Sargent who presented the military viewpoint and UFT representatives who pointed out the importance of good school leadership. The class discussed issues of current interest, relevant to the techniques of leadership needed for tomorrow. 5 1 TO CHEER , ..- . nn ,.
