Y. 10019 2124896183 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Congratulations on your graduation! This is an occasion as equally important to the John Jay Family as it is to you. We celebrate your accomplishments and take deep pride in knowing that we have shared in helping you embark upon an exciting and rewarding future. We, at John Jay, have attempted to provide you with an education through the study of the Liberal Arts and the professional disciplines of Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Fire Science, Forensic Science and Forensic Psychology. This unique integration of the traditional academic disciplines with your specialized field of study has, we hope, provided you with both depth and breadth of knowledge. Through your rigorous study of these disciplines we also hope you have developed your skills for logic, Hwhat isu in order to ask Hwhat can I do. You are in the position now to provide leadership as professionals in public service areas. Your education will continue as you set out upon this new course. We hope that what you have learned and experienced at John Jay represents the beginning, not the culmination, of your educational aspirations. I extend to each of you, the graduates of 1988, my most heartfelt wishes for happiness and fulfillment. N x TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATORS ..... FACULTY H. . ATHLETHE3.H . CLUBS .... . LJ ALL IN A STATE OF MIND lf you think you are beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don't lf you would like to win and don't think you can It's almost a cinch you won't. If you think you'll lose, you're lost, For out in the world you'll find Success begins with a person's will, It's all in a state of mind. Full many a race is lost Ere even a step is run. And many a coward fails Ere even their work is begun. Think big and your deeds will grow. Think small and you'Il fall behind, Think that you can and you will - It's all in the state of mind. If you think that you're outclassed, you are, You've got to think high to rise. You've got to be sure of yourself before You ever can win a prize. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later, the person who wins Is the person who thinks they can. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill When the funds are low and the debts are high And you want to smile, but have to sigh, When cares are pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but DON'T YOU QUIT! Life is odd with it's twist and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a person turns about - When they might have won had they stuck it out Don't give up though the pace seems slow - YOU MAY SUCCEED WITH ANOTHER BLOW! Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man. Often the struggler has given up . . . When they might have captured the victor's cup. And they learned too late when the night came downg HOW CLOSE THEY WERE TO THE GOLDEN CROWN Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - IT'S WHEN THINGS SEEM WORST . .. THAT YOU MUSTN'T QUIT! LEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE OF C X - - RA!! A 43, I C' Q4 c CD 3 r fi? by A DED X05 L, A A STUDENT GUVERNMENT AND CLUBS -W STUDENT CUUNCIL 1987-1988 1 X. xx X- xx X H I , . Many students on campus are unaware that the college is host to The Institute On Alcohol 84 Substance Abuse, which offers a curriculum in alcohol studies. Those courses attract students who are professionals in the field, aspiring profession- als, and lay people, from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. These students have a wealth of experience and knowledge to offer each other, and the student body at large. For years this human resource remained untapped for lack ofa network with which to communicate. Recovery Resources Network fills that void. We provide a framework for mutual support, organized educational and social activities, and a campus forum for student life issues that relate to alcohol and substance abuse.
