Your accomplishment in graduating from John Jay represents a milestone which you should be proud of. Your quest for knowledge and pursuit of higher education marks you as a leader, and I urge you strongly to carry the dedication which made graduation possible into your ev- ery day lives. We live in a society troubled by uncertainty, fraught with apathy, and divided by prejudice. Yours is a heavy responsibility, and one which does not end with graduation, but in some ways just begins. The unique nature of John Jay College, both in its mission and in its student body, sets it apart in many ways. To those of you in, or who are about to enter, the criminal justice system I would only remind you of the awesome respon- sibility you face. I am confident you will meet it well. My best wishes to you and your families, and may your future days be filled with the re- wards you so richly deserve. l s
