President's Message I wish to extend my personal congratulations to each recipient of a degree from Iohn jay College in 1971. I, and the faculty, are aware that for both full-time and part-time students the acquisi- tion of the degree represents the culmination of a period of great sacrifice and effort. We all hope that you derive as much satisfac- tion from your personal development and achievement - repre- sented by the diploma - as we derive from granting it to you. The editors of the Yearbook deserve the thanks of the entire College community for their continued efforts in putting out a book which we hope will serve the purpose of maintaining a pro- longed association and identification with the College. Again, I extend to each graduate my congratulations and my very best wishes for continued success. 18

Deans Message You have chosen to undertake and complete a college educa- tion. Now there are many more choices you can make in your life. One of the continuing ones is whether you go on being liberated lthis is what a liberal education meansj from the necessarily nar- rowed views of the particular time, class, group and milieu into which we were all born and reared. Now that you have finished college there are so many new and exciting problems to tackle, so many around us in our city and nation. I believe you should never be afraid to be the best, to strive for the most important goals, to ask more of yourselves than you think you can give. You must be the movers and catalysts of our society, you must be the innova- tors in the Criminal justice system. If you will not be, then to whom can we turn? I congratulate you on your achievements and I wish you God- speed in the fulfillment of your fondest dreams. 70
