I 4. gm , 9 Q ,.,,, ..--f -,K-ie'-1 '? X l Commencement time marks the successful achievement of a goal and, hopefully, the commencement of a pursuit ot newer, higher goals. Your opportunities are without parallel. Never has there been a greater insistence by society that its law enforcement officials have a higher education. If ever a graduating class has been at the right place at the right time. it's you. Congratulations and good luck! Claude E. Hawley Dean of the College 18

.-fl 1 . I I .Q i I ii ..,, I Yr -3 4 N he I wish to extend my personal congratulations to each recipient of a degree from John Jay College in 1969. I know full well the long years of sacrifice on the parts of students and their families that is required for the successful completion of any course of study at this College. But, all our graduates-and their families-can derive satisfaction from the achievements of personal development and contributions to the professionalization of law enforcement which the diploma represents. I should also like to congratulate the editors of the yearbook, which seems to get better every year. It represents an important contribution to the building of a sense of community at the College. I sincerely hope that it will be one means of maintaining each graduate's continued association and identification with the College. I extend to each of you, again, my congratulations and my very best wishes for continued success in your every endeavor. President Donald H. Riddle I7 T ,als- Y Mia' . 'F' .

We do not have to lecture our graduates on the need to buckle their belts and earn a living, or on the importance of distinguishing the academic life from the real world. Our graduates have been earning both a living and a degree for sometime. Like all other colleges in this difficult year, John Jay has its problems. Still, I believe there is a mutual respect of faculty and students which is quite unique in the present situation. We on the faculty-if I may presume to speak for my colleagues-have learned that mature men and women can study very effectively while working in very demanding jobs. You who are graduating have, I hope, learned that John Jay is a first-rate college with an accomplished and sympathetic faculty. We are proud of you for achieveing your success under difficult circumstances. We wish you well and hope you remember us fondly. John Cammett Dean of Faculty I9
