Services rendered by the Student Council cover a wide range of activities, among which are the self-disciplined study halls, the information desk in the foyer, and assistance to the homeroom teacher in caring for new students at the beginning of each semester, in work on grades, and in the details of the homeroom routine. The president, the vice-president, the recording secretary, and the corresponding secretary represent rhe Student Council at the cabinet meetings. Elected twice a year, these officers serve for only one semester while the cabinet directors and the student city manager serve for a year. CORRIDOR GUARD DIRECTORS Locating rooms in the building, keeping the halls clean, keeping the building free from loiterers, and protecting srudents' property by seeing that lockers are locked arc some of the duties that are undertaken by this organization. Composed of student volunteers who desire to serve their school, the corridor guards help to keep our school wheels turning. Each corridor guard is on duty one period each day patrolling a designated section. Directors in charge each period give the guards notices and instructions concerning their duties. About twice a semester general meetings are held for discussion. Collecting activity ticket money each morning in homeroom to take to the senior office is the job of the Ledger secretary. Every Ledger secretary must keep an accurate account of the money that each student has paid on his ticket. Activity ticket money goes to help pay for new uniforms for the many teams, for the school paper, and for various other needs of the school. Regular meetings arc held so that each Ledger secretary can give a complete report of his progress in collecting money. An assembly is held every September at the beginning of the fall term and again at the beginning of the spring term to promote the sale of these activities tickets. From the merry clarinet to the deep tuba, the members of the band put everything they have into playing a number, whether they arc playing at a game, assembly, or pep rally. With flying batons, swirling skirts, and a strutting drum major, the majorettes march with the band at all football games, basketball games, and pep rallies. This group of high steppers never fails to entertain the crowd and add spirit to the game. To belong to this traditional organization a girl must pass the entrance test and be willing to spend long hours practicing twirling routines. Girls who wish to learn baton twirling and who want to join this group may attend twirling classes. Perseverance, initiative, a good attitude, and regular attendance are the necessary qualifications for a good majorette. INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE Woodwinds, string instruments, percussion, and brass instruments make up the Instrumental Ensemble, one of the five important musical organizations. Playing a variety of gay musical pieces, the Ensemble performs at school assemblies and at the spring concert. CHORAL CLUB Whether ir is a solemn holiday assembly, a citizenship assembly, or a gay sing-out, the Choral club always adds a musical atmosphere to the program. Consisting of both boys and girls, this group has for many years participated in the traditional singing of carols on Christmas Eve at the Public Square. This organization is open to boys who can pass the entrance tests and enjoy singing. In order to be eligible for membership, girls must have at least one semester in the Girls' Glee club. Points may be earned toward graduation or toward a service key. GIRLS GLEE CLUB It's a woman's world as far as the singing group of girls composing the (oris Glee-club is concerned. They sing at school assemblies and represent the school in the annual city-wide singing contest. Making a broadcast together with the hor.il club each year over WBOE is another important event on their busy schedule. STAGECR AFTERS Handling all sorts of tools, paint, and other equipment, the Stagccraftcrs work on the scenes for all dramatic productions and organize the settings for auditorium programs. Members of this organization can be seen on occasion attired in tattered and torn jeans and old shirts, busily setting up the stage. Volunteers may join the Stagecrafters dub for service points, or they may take it as a non-vocational course. Special awards are given for outstanding work done throughout the semester. Sergeant at Arms Kept constantly busy drawing posters, making decorations for the Recognition dinners, and illustrating almost every school activity is the art service club. Their work can usually be seen in the show cases Doing the art for the Hayride is another important job while in every issue of the Ledger you sec their work in the editorial page cartoon. These art students take great pride in their work. Every spring they exhibit some of it in the Regional Scholastic Art show. At the end of each semester, the art service club has a luncheon with a professional artist as guest. If a student likes to draw and to be of service to his school, he may join the art service club. Calling squads to attention, taking attendance, and promoting order are some of them. Knowing the rules of the game, showing signs of leadership, good judgment, and reliability arc a few of the qualities she must possess to qualify for her responsible position. The club consists of 24 members. 12 of whom were newcomers this year. The initiation of the new members, which was held on November 3, was a pleasant task for the older members.
