DEDICATION No words are needed in the great crises of life, for when they come, the life lived and the record achieved stand up tocharacterize the moment. Reagan is in the throes of such a crisis in the retirement of Mr. Williams from the school system of Houston. He came to Reagan in 1929 as assistant principal and became principal in 1932. Within those years stands a record of staggering achievement. Space does not permit the listing of his many accomplishments, nor is it necessary that they be listed, for they stand as monuments to his ability and to his dedi- cation to the cause of education, but the influence of those efforts is the thing that is important and marks him for greatness. We shall miss him, but at the same time we rejoice that it was our happy lot to have had him come our way. He leaves us a great school to be proud of, a strong foundation to continue to build on, and high goals to aspire to. In appreciation of the legacy he has left us-the sense of the importance of education and the worth of character-and with the pledge that we shall try to make our lives better for having known him, we proudly dedicate to him this, the 1958 PENNANT. 71' ifx' ,, nf, v

FOREWO RD The theme of this year's PENNANT is TIME, which we have striven to depict on the book's division pages. In choosing this theme, we had in mind first and foremost appreciation for the Time Mr. Williams has been con- nected with Reagan, chiefly as Principal, from 1932-1958. It also represents the Time of this particular year, 1957-1958, for all of us here at Reagan, with the hope that in these nine months we have grown in knowledge, char- acter, and friendships. In yet another sense it is the Time of Life in general, which is given us to spend maturing as individuals, with always the goal ahead of leaving the niche of the world we occupy a better place than we found it. Take time to live- that is what time is for. Take time to work- it is the price of success. Take time to play- it is the fountain of wisdom. Take time to be friendly- it is the road to happiness. Take time to laugh- it.is the music of the soul. Take time to be courteous- it is the mark of a gentleman.
