ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL 6LJ4L. VA. QJLUFKJ , , 53, Q a EV MRS. O. R. HALE Another administrator who does more work than is hardly believed possible is our registrar, Mrs. Hale. She is in top command of the office and runs it with ex- treme credit. She keeps records of all student credits and classi- fications, certifies seniors for graduation, averages grades for seniors and ranks them, checks on students worthy of scholar- ship, and makes out transcripts for students going to college or applying for iobs. l-ler uncanny ability of knowing every student in the school without resort to records never ceases to amaze those who know of this unusual trait of hers. MRS. BERNICE B. GALE Our indispensable Dean of Girls is Mrs. Bernice Gale. A great deal of work goes into this iob - more than many of us realize. Most of her many duties concern the girls of the school - helping girls in need of counseling and checking out sick girls and those withdrawing from school. Besides her duties connected with girls, she sponsors the sophomore class, supervises both the conduct of students in the cafeteria and the finances connected with lunches, super- intends the planning of the May Fete, and is in charge of the bookroom and school mimeographing. Whenever there's a school activity, there you will find Mrs. Gale, loyally supporting Reagan. M133 KA MRS. MARY HAYES RUTH MRS. GLADYS WINSHIP COLINSELORS OFFICE FORCE NX Rs. RHODA S SHEET Z MRS. REAGAN SPE KERS FORUM The Speaker's Forum is composed of members of the Extemp and Debate classes under the capable leadership of Mr. J. R. Pappy Holcomb. The students in this organization participate in many programs and tournaments during the year. Various awards are made at tournaments. Individual winners are given medals, while the debate teams are awarded trophies, which they in turn present to the school. Each time the students take part in some program or tournament they acquire points toward membership in a nation-wide speech organization, the National Forensic League. To help finance the out-of-town speech tournaments, the Speaker's Forum for the past two years has presented Forum Follies, This has been the first variety show of the year, and we hope to make it an annual proiect. The show has been worth the work put into it, especially this year, for one of Reagan's girls debate teams has won tour trophies in attending five tournaments. Many benefits are gained from participation in the speech activities. A greater knowledge of current events and government help not only in every day life, but in such classes as civics and history. From the social aspect, tournaments provide an excellent opportunity to meet new people and make friends from schools all over Texas and even from other states such as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Missouri. 1.6 L VWQIHQ Glgantac trophy erected for Reagan Speech T o u r n a m e Banquet held SPEECH ACTI ITIE 6-6 Vi 2 In December l 955 KLA WEL TSM HUM 1 n Reagan Speechters LITTLE NATIONALS Muskogee Oklahoma PS Too bad we didnt wun ths large one It as really only d littered with papuer mache pam god ted a beautuful gold an g Cross Borderll NA Where us yon Pappy 999999999 In yon Busooovovoov Speech Students head for Dallas for tournament SMU erform for SUPER! This also gives them an ad- vantage over infexperienced graduates. The first D.E. students worked without wages, satisfied only with the gaining ot experience and business knowledge. Now they not only receive a salary according to their ser- vice, but they also receive one and one-fourth credits each semester. Membership in the DE Club is limited, therefore, only those with average or above average grades, good con- duct, and regular attendance are admitted. Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y, sponsored by the Y.M.C.A., is a voluntary club program for high school students. The name is a combination of High School YMCA. The Y movement is international, national, and state in scope, Christian in emphasis, interdenominational in character, and democratic in purpose. The three planks of the Hi-Y program are: clean living, clean speech, and clean sportsmanship. Last year the Y took part in celebrating with the World's Alliance Y.M.C.A.'s by sending a representative to Paris, France, August, l955. Our local Y also sent six members to the Model Legislative Program in Austin, Texas, during December, l955. Out of Service, he taught in Freeport, Texas, for nine years and then in Wharton Junior College, teaching theory and music. He studied trombone with the late Joseph Gustav, formerly First Chair of St. Louis Symphony, and also studied conducting with William D. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Houston but attended summer school sessions at North Carolina, Baylor University, and University ot Arizona. He married a Houston Girl, Virginia Sheridan, and they have two children, Tommy, twelve and Janie, seven. To him, there's no school like Reagan. Welcome to Reagan, Mr. Robbins! Drum Major JOHNNY THOMAS The Reagan Band, one of the oldest and most honored in the state, was originally a military unit composed entirely of boys. Since it was organized some thirty years ago, the Band has grown and improved under the direction of Leslie Kohl- man, Mrs. O. W. Bogard, Charles Lindsey, and Jay M. Brandstetter. Mr. John W. Robbins is this year's able director. In 1941, the band received a first place rating in the interscholastic League contest, the first such honor the Band had ever won. During the past fourteen years only once has the organization fallen below the first division. Some of the activities of the group include participation in all of Reagan's foot- ball games, the first home game of the Rice Owls, and the annual University of Texas homecoming game and marching contest, where in 1951 the Band won first place in competition with more than fifty of the State's top bands. The organi- zation also participates in parades, music festivals, all-state band, and the gradu- ation exercises. In addition to these activities, the Band annually sponsors the d B ll n New Year's Eve, Band Capades, the spring variety show, Masquera e a o and fall Fish Week, when all new members are initiated.
