The best government is that which teaches us to govern ourselves. With this in mind, the boys at Poly, acting upon an idea of Principal John H. Francis, began a Self Government in l904. However, Self Govern- ment as we know it was instituded by Prin- cipal Dunn in 1932. Poly was one of the first schools on the coast to have a Self Government. Not to be outdone by the guys and fired up by the success of Boys' Self Govemment, the gals soon started a Self Government for themselves. When true Self Government was begun in 1923, the merit system was also created.
