Coleman Faculty Advisor Published by THE SENIOR CLASS of JOHN GRAHAM HIGH SCHOOL JOHN GRAHAM HIGH WARRENTON, N. C. SCHOOL We are here, dear John Graham High, To laud your glory to the sky. Sons and daughters true. . . . DEDICATION We, the Seniors of 1952, proudly dedicate this issue of the WARREN- TONIAN to Miss Ruth Keaton, who has guided us successfully through our Junior and Senior years. She has worked with us and played with us; she has been a loyal friend and an understanding teacher. We will remember her always with love and appreciation for all the help she has given us and the wonderful job she has done. FACULTY E. J. BULLOCK Principal DIXON H. We can not linger here nor stay; Each must go his own way. So it is with life from morn till eve, When the end shall come and we shall leave. Some gentle deed, jome act so kind That will linger long to bless mankind. Oh John Graham High, Dear John Graham High, Loyal we’ll ever be. We lift our hearts and voices In tribute and love to thee. We sing not of her beauty, But the record far and wide Of her nobles, sons and daughters, With just and honor pride. Her doctors, lawyers, teachers, Her governors, statesmen too, And the brave deeds her soldiers did Are decked with colors blue. It isn’t the big things that count so much, It’s the kindly deed, the human touch. The ones that have helped when we needed a lift, The things that we wanted they gave as a gift. If you are weary and tired and sad Do something for others and make them glad. Stick through your job through thick and thin, Turn all around and begin again. The world wasn’t made in just one day, There’s lots we can do on the rugged way. So let’s face the future with hope and cheer, And a thought of the.goal toward which we shall steer. Now we look behind at what we’ve done, The battles fought, the victories won. We rejoice at last that we’ve done our best, Now our talents will be put to the test. CLASS HISTORY It all began one early fall morning in 1948 as the halls of old John Graham echoed with the voices of students ready to begin a new year—some students ready to begin what seemed to be a new life. High School! We forty-two freshmen thought there was nothing like it. Our home¬ room teachers, Mrs. Martindale and Miss Allen, were among the many teachers who tried to guide us in the right way, who tried to keep us quiet, and who endured teaching classes in which there were for a week, freshman girls who looked and acted as if they had come to class from another planet without considering earth s present styles of dressing. (They were girls being initiated into the F.H.A. Club.) We really had an outstanding freshman class which included two members of the Seer staff, a cheerleader, and participants in many club and in all sports. Speaking of sports, we girls in Mrs. Martindale’s physical education class formed what we thought was an unconquerable basketball team. We played such teams as the John Graham varsity and the Macon girls. Results—? Mrs. Stewart and Miss Mariam Boyd were probably thankful that they were our sophomore homeroom teachers since this was the year we developed from freshmen into more dignified juniors. •. Airing this reasonably quiet year, there were several boys who were initiated into the F.F.A. Club, but the initiation was kept secret by the noble order of the F.F.A. Club and thus cannot be recorded. We sophomores were well represented in the Beta Club as seven of the class were inducted into this club. Our exciting junior year began with the consolidation of the Macon and Warrenton High Schools, thus increasing the number of juniors to fifty-one. Miss Keaton and Mr. Ward worked with us as ' we tried many money making schemes in order to raise enough money for the Junior-Senior banquet and dance. The theme of this exciting festivity was Spanish Fiesta” and was successfully carried out. During this same year the school formed a student council, the president of which was elected from our class. The wearing of class rings, the choosing of our invitations, the senior play, We Shook the Family Tree,” the trip to Washington—all have made us very dignified seniors of the ’52 class. Soon we shall be the first to wear the new blue graduation gowns. Soon—very soon— we shall graduate as seniors from a school of knowledge to become freshmen in the school of life. What happens then? Only time will tell, but among our memories will always be the dear old days at John Graham High. MILTON McCOY Class Testator PROPHECY I wonder what the Seniors of 1952 will be doing ten years from now? As I sit here, it all seems to come clear to me. The night is Saturday night, the date is January 25, 1962, and the place is Skateland, Henderson, N. C. The seniors are all having a big reunion and a skating party just like the ones we had in our senior year at John Graham. It doesn’t seem possible but all the seniors are here, and they are all skating. All of them seem to be skating very well, at least most of them.
