SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS President, Johnnie Gamble Secretary, Jane Reavis Vice President, Milton King Treasurer, Sterling Moore CLASS HISTORY We are here dear John Graham High. . . . On a bright September day in 1942, we began our journey through high school. The girls were in Miss Lassiter’s homeroom and the boys in Mr. Dean’s. Because we didn’t know any better then, most of us studied very hard and made excellent grades. Early in the spring, we enjoyed a picnic in the woods not far from the school. Sons and daughters true. . . . Another September and we were Sophomores. With Mrs. Holt and Mrs. Stewart as our homeroom teachers, we really made our presence felt in John Graham High. Many of us were chosen members of the “Seer” staff. We also played a big part in the two plays presented by the Dramatic Club this year. Several of the boys received their letters for various sports and were initiated into the Monogram Club. Since there was no Junior Class this year, we entertained the Seniors at a picnic supper and a dance at the Country Club. Everybody had a wonderful time, especially the sophomores. Sixteen of us were tapped for the Beta Club and at the Graduation Exercises seven of us were marshals. As we go marching on our way. . . . Under the direction of Miss Yeattes and Miss Barkley, we began our Junior year. Most of the boys played football, basketball, or baseball. Quite a few of us were in our Junior play, “Young Barry,” which was directed by Miss Walters. We enjoyed a hayride, a picnic, and a swim in May at Rock Mill near Henderson. So to you our mother dear, we’ll never fail . . . never fail. . . . Our Senior year came at last. We were fifty strong counting the six veterans who were back at school. About twenty of us went to Chapel Hill on Senior Day where we were given complimentary tickets to the Carolina-Virginia Tech football game. With the help of Miss Walters, our homeroom teacher, and Miss Barkley, we sponsored a food booth at the Warren County Fair. In spite of our inexperience, we made around $350 which we put aside for our trip to Washington. Our class rings which we ordered in October came in the spring. —Jane Reavis. 6
