What with one problem and another, the week was almost like any other. Friday, however, brought back some of our spirit with a great rally and Senior Tea afterwards to welcome back our alumni and introduce our princesses. ' a ij J I M 1 z hqmeggming: z 58-ACTIVITIES ukhr MbwEE z ACTIVITIES-59 The time for memories comes but once a year. That time is Homecoming. Sadly enough this year our Homecoming Week was nonexistent. Our Homecoming Game was a defeat on the field. The Homecoming at half-time was to be a time for remembrances of yesteryear for our alumni. With no activities and no forethought, it wasn ' t even a night that the Princesses would want to remember. flGMEEQMING 60-ACTIVITIES %.« ' a. K.. 3j . . P GAME 61-ACTIVITIES CALIFORNIA BREAMING 62-ACTIVITIES It ' s the time for little fantasies; The fantasy of a dream. Of a wish come true, An urge to laugh, To cry. It ' s you and I searching, pondering; Holding on to and letting go Of something within each of us. It ' s a smile. As close as it is far away; Warmth and fondness following the path. It ' s never knowing when. But always hoping, reaching. In the thought that it might be there. It ' s the shedding of tears For happiness. For love. For all. 63-ACTIVITIES Spirit Dance Times are much happier when we win 1 To celebrate our victory and to show our spirit, a dance was held. The spirit of the evening was climaxed when people actually moved off their seats to dance. 64-ACTIVITIES Army Band In January, The New Reliables came from Ft. Lewis Wash. The students filed into the gym for (OH HUM) another assembly. Then to ourastonishment, we discover- ed that this Army band was real- ly good. Toward the end, the lead singer asked for a dancing partner. (Dead Silence) Then to the shock and humiliation of her fellow students, Monica Morris actually had the guts and au- dacity to get up and dance. This is one assembly which won ' t soon be forgotten. ACTIVITIES-65 66-ACTIVITIES The Christmas Twilight Dance came to life at the Candlewood Country Club December 19. It was a night of joy for Rachel Valdivia as she was crowned Queen of the Dance. A pathway of stars lit up the dance floor as the smiles of Rachel and her court lit up the atmosphere. It was a night that Rachel will always remember. ACTIVITIES-67 ? L - Student Government Day January 19, 1973 was Student Government Day at John Glenn. It was a day to discuss common problems of the different schools in our district. Ceremonies were started at eight o ' clock by vice-president Perry Yarbrough. The schools then broke down into the different offices; president and vice-president, etc. A tour of the campus was given by the small units. Then the first rap session began. Discussions came from all the schools. Alot was accomp- lished. A general session began with Mr. Michael Westerlin talking. The day ended after the rally in the gym was concluded. 68-ACTIVITIES B i f.V fed « !i a i J 1,1 D ! ' ? To the students involved, it is a real chance to do something worthwhile and rewarding. This year their pro- duction of The Pied Piper of Ham- elin was a wonderful experience for the actors, even more so for the children at the various schools. 1973 is only it ' s second year but already Children ' s Theater is an established part of John Glenn. 72-ACTIVITIES Golden Boy is more than a romantic triangle between a young boxer, his manager and the woman they both loved. It is the story of a young man ' s struggle for his purpose in life and a woman ' s search for happiness. Set in the ' 30 ' s, the show was enhanced by some fresh new acting. Like all of Mr. C ' s shows the near disasters were overcome and the show was a huge success. Golden Boy ACTIVITIES-73 The play centered around a dying soldier and his memories of his childhood, his mother and father, and his girlfriend through flashbacks. Wes Fowler and Mario Cordero alternated in this very difficult role. The feeling of emotion, and fear of dying were in part a truth to the experiences of many men who have fought and died for what they believed in. 74-ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES-75 Sports Night On certain nights as the sun sets in the west and the stars start twinkling a peculiar phenomenon takes place in the John Glenn Gym. Up come the lights, out come the nets, rackets, and balls. In troop the students, then best of all, the teachers arrive dressed in scuzzies. (TEACHERS?) Everybody gets in the spirit and has a good old time which is the whole idea behind a Sports Night. 76-ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES-77 %4  m,W WEI Sffis pe and loyally fu thrr mill always bo rtc hold in cherished thoughts 1hc ycarc that thoa has brought lil t,i ohn Glenn. The season started out with our annually scheduled loss to Excelsior. The Drill Team and Cheer Leaders were superb. The skits and pep rallies they sponsored brightened our days. The football games the TEAM toyed with darkened the nights even blacker than they were supposed to be. All in all it was a good year for losing. The Sophomores finished the season with Glenn ' s best record this year. The team gives credit for their success to Coach Vetica. He used training, strategy, and fellowship to move his team up to second place in league. The team ' s leaders, George Dull and Jim Creek, assisted in keeping up the strength and spirit. Although we accept this ideal, it is often easy to forget it, to set it aside, to consider it unimportant. We are only human, and this is why we all need someone, some special teacher, to touch our lives and inspire us to keep on trying, to dream, to strive, to reach that star. For so many John Glenn students, Mrs. Alyce Mariana and Mrs. Nancy Housden were those special teachers.
