VICTORY eluded Cee s It was once noted by an ancient Chinese philosopher that defeat builds character. In that case, the Cee football team should have a chestful. Beginning the season under the direction of Coach Tripp and Coach Baca, the Cee's were a young team with little experience. Eighty percent of the players were frosh and most had Dexponents. Although the Cee's scored few points they did move the ball. By the end of the season the mini-brutes rolled for nearly 2000 yards and racked up 66 first downs. la- sk? ROW 1 P Rojas, D. Marquez, T. BEE'S OVGTCO me pre-SGHSO D Under new head coach john Di Mario the Bee's strove for improve- ment. A disappointing pre-season cast doubts in the new coach's mind. The Bee team, hungry for victory, met its first opponent, La Mirada. And victory became sweet. Charging on, Neff soon ended Glenn's hopes with a 45-0 whitewash. Gahr fell short and hopes for a championship glimmered again. All hope vanished when a mighty Mayfair team put down the hungry Eagles. The league ended on a happy note however, with Glenn defeating a good Artesia team 28-14. Q s i r Defense stops Monte Vista drive. ROW1 R. Garza, G. Lauderdale, R. Garcia, T. Cardenas, A. cross-country team sets ITS OWU PHCC Varsity cross-country squad of three seniors and five sophomores ran from last year's fifth place to fourth place in the Suburban League. Improving all season the boys ran their best races in the league finals. After placing third in the district meet the team returned to league meet upsetting Neff and beating La Mirada for the second time. Paul Arenas, top varsity runner, placed third in the C.l.F. prelims at Long Beach. Paul's 10:09 two-miler earned him the trophy for Most Out- standing runner. Coach Munroe expects that with continued improve- ment this sophomore will break all Glenn long-distance records, includ- ing those of the Duncan twins. The trophy for Most Improved went to Herb Ramirez, another sophomore who consistently ran a strong third man for the team all year. The Sports- manship Trophy went to three-year varsity letterman jesus Penilla for his outstanding dedication and team spirit. 'ffyilfl ' 1i.BW?aKsHi?4S11:111gQ2Qz515531412 ' K 11-1
