OGOICAIIGI1 Last year the 670 students of John H. Glenn High School dedicated their 1963 Patriot to Colo- nel John H. Glenn, hero of the United States of America, for his remarkable feat of orbiting the earth. This year the Patriot Staff has decided to dedicate the 1964 Patriot to a hero of the ex- celsior Union High School District. This person has held such jobs as teaching mechanical arts, Director of Attendance, Dean of Boys, but now holds a very important job, more important to us than any of the others. When we see his smil- ing face outlamong us, we realize that we are glad he is our Principal, Mr. Richard James. We are proud of you Mr. James! N M 0 it 3 -1-qv Q , f -4 -' ff? fxlffz '-1 . . Our faculty has grown from 25 to 42 and our student body has soared to over 1000 Qgiving a little credit to the class of '67l. There were many other changes this year. Last year we had plenty of hard, dry dirt when the sun shone, and plenty of soft, gushy mud when it didn't. This year we have trees, flowers, and most wonderful of all, good old American grass. Our snack bar of last year is our Space Bar of this year and forever. Last year, John H. Glenn High School consisted of Freshmen and Sophomoresg this year Glenn has Fresh- men, Sophomores and Juniors. And next year fG1ory!J Seniors and Graduation. We have grown and will continue growing for years and years to come. Our theme this year is We Are. The Annual Staff thought this theme should be used comically, so don't be sur- prised if you see some pretty strange things ............ ...... . . . Why We Are ? Because we are the Hopes, The Dreams and the Future. Carolyn Manley, Editor in Chief MR. HAROLD L. MacTAGGART President MR. VENN W. FURGESON DR CARL W. TAGUE Clerk MRS. PHYLLIS S. Then, fourth period, the rumor spread through the classrooms: The President has been shot! By lunch time it was confirmed: John F. Kennedy, the President of the United States, was dead. A hush settled over the campus. Students, huddled in little groups, talked in quiet tones. The cafe- torium radio was turned full volume and hundreds of students listened disbelievingly and some wept openly. It was a day in every high school student's life that will forever remain engaved on the memory. .3 In lmnriam 9'-ffiwgf 35th Prosldont of The United States of America Hag 25. 1517 Nnnnnher ZZ. 1953 Ask not what your county enn do for you: nlkwhatyoucmdoforyoureountfy. l Inaugural Andrus czjlfs I 20 l If- of!
