Look! and Listen. The Girls' Athletic Association, better known as G.A.A. , held their Annual play day in November. Fremont was the host school to Iefferson, Iordan, and South Gate High Schools. The aftemoon was filled with yells and games. The Solar System was the theme and the teams were named after the various planets. The afternoon started out with a big Zoom, and all space was filled wih flying saucers lbasket and volley ballsl. After the girls battled it out, in fun of course. they sat down for refreshments. The Scouts, after a rather poor tirst hali, due to the Apache's more experienced backs and larger linemen. fought back gamely in the second half, but wound up on the short end of a 13-0 score. INGLEWOOD vs. FREMONT i Fremont's swift-footed backs, Perry, Sorenson, Hall and Wimbley really shone as the Pathiinders scalped the Inglewood Indians. Wimbly swivel-hipped tor a crazy 59 yard run to start the Pathtinders going. Perry scored twice as he scampered 85 yards tor 6, and 90 yards for the other T.D. Sorenson broke through tackle for an 87 yard jaunt, good tor 6 more. Cortez and Hall crashed over for two more T.D.'s to put Fremont on top 38 to 14. IORDAN vsl FREMONT 3,500 spectators watched rookie Bob Curry put one a one-man show by scoring two touchdowns in the Second Quarter as the Fremont Pathtinders dumped their Milk Bowl opponents, Iordan, on the short end ot a 12-6 score. This was just one oi the gridiron classics played all over the city. All services of officials were donated and all proceeds went to the P.-T.A.'s Milk Fund tor under- privileged children. MANUAL vs. FREMONT l The Dixie Loop opener matched Fremont against favored Manual. Scoreless until the second quarter, the Toilers went for two T.D.'s, a 39 yard field goal, and a safety. The hard lighting Scouts came back with a 55 yard run by Fullback Art Wimbley for 6, the extra point was good. But the Pathiinder's last minute drive was halted by Father Time with Fremont still trailing 18 to 7. 75 H arfiif gfacha fora! GO GETTUM BOYS Gans 'I :- , 5 ' Y I 5 25451. The extra point was blocked. The game was a see-saw battle with Ieff fighting back and scoring every time the Scouts did but making 2 to our l conversions. Curry caught a 51 yard pass from Eckmann for the 2nd T.D. Perry went 25 yards around end for the 3rd T.D. Wimbley and Perry were the work horses for the Pathfinders. In the last play of the game, Scott tryed a 45 yard field goal in a do or die attempt to close a 20-19 gap. It was straight and narrow but fell short. GARFIELD vs. FREMONT Fremont High's rugged eleven slipped by Garfield's Bulldogs to annex their first league victory 14 to 12. The Scouts got off to a flying start, scoring both touchdowns in the first quarter. Fullback Art Wimbley hit pay dirt on a 24 yard jaunt off tackle. Kenny Dennis then came right back with a Bulldog punt return for 75 yards and six more points. Garfield scored in the third and fourth quarters, but missed the valuable extra point both times. ROOSEVELT vs. FREMONT In the first half Fremont and Roose- velt played to scoreless tie. Starting the second half the Roughriders broke loose for two teedees and a l4-0 lead. The high-spirited Scouts fought back gamely in the waning minutes of the last quarter. Robert Curry started it off with a circus catch of Eckmanns aerial for the Pathfinders initial six points. Then Charles Perry, the game hero, racked up the Scouts last two scores on an 87 yard run and the reception of two 5 yard passes from Eckrnann. This gallant. last minute drive gave the Pathfinders their second league victory 19-14. WASHINGTON vs. FREMONT The last game of the season saw Fremonts fourth place underdogs striving for a victory over a third spot favored Washington eleven. On the first play Eckmann sent a iump pass to Anthony Furgeson who left the secondaries standing s-till and went 68 yards for 6. The extra point was good for 7. Sammy Reed, on a quick opener and some fine broken field running. went 55 yards for the Scouts second tally. The extra point was no good, the score remained 13-U. With 7 seconds to go in the first half, Art Wimbley, season co-captain, smashed off tackle for 15 yards and pay dirt. A linemens' dream for three years finally came true when co- captain Ioe Perret intercepted a Gen- eral pass and romped 45 yards. into the end zone, but was called back on a clipping penalty. Fullback Art Wimbley took the ball on the Washington 45 and went for his 5th league -tally of the year and the last score of the season. Iefferson, one of the leagues finest, became the first eleven to score on the Pathfinders, but to no avail as the little men from Iohn C. clipped them 20-6. Next in line for our maurauding midgets came Garfields' Bulldogs. They too fell under the onslaught of our boys 20-0, after the Scouts had had 6 tee dees called back. Roosevelt became our next victim and proved to be the toughest eleven our stalwart Bees faced. We finished on top 7-U in a hard fought contest. Though Washington scored upon us, the Generals were never in the game as Silver- thorn's Slayers romped home again 19-6. FREMONT vs. MANUAL ARTS Manual Arts, hosting the Fremont Cagers, handed the visit- ing team a 57-53 loss in their initial contest of the season. It was a closely fought game but Manual forged ahead in the fourth with the Pathfinders trying desperately to close an 11 point deficit but falling short by 4 points. FREMONT vs. IEFFERSON Fremont handed Iefferson their first league loss with the powerful Pathfinders edging Democrats 72-68 in a thrilling game which both teams running the fast break. The Scouts showed their power on the boards wi-th Edward Wallace and Ernie Stafford controlling the backboards most of the game. FREMONT vs. GARFIELD Fremont's powerful five romped over a helpless Garfield 78-30. The Pathfinders showed power in everything they did and dominated the court at all times. FREMONT vs. ROOSEVELT The Pathfinder five went to Roosevelt as the underdogs of the game. Going into two overtimes it was sudden death for either team. Brown dribbled down the floor, through the entire Roosevelt five and then passed to Wallace whose set shot spilt the net. The underdogs conquered 63-61. FREMONT vs. MANUAL ARTS The Scout cagers defeated the powerful Manual Arts Toilers and put Fremont, Manual Arts, Iefferson, and Roose- velt in a 4 way tie for lst place. FREMONT vs. IEFFERSON ' In a wild and hectic battle the Pathfinders of Fremont were edged by Ieff's cagers 67-66. With two seconds left to play and the score all tied up. Ieff had two free throws coming because of a foul. They missed the first and new life came, but the second was made, and it was enough to win the game. FREMONT vs. GARFIELD The Mercermen coasted to a 71-38 victory over a weak Garfield. The Scouts were led by Ernie Stafford, who netted 30 points and a new school record for Fremont. FREMONT vs. ROOSEVELT The Pathfinders wound up the season by trouncing highly regarded Roosevelt 65-43. Leading the cagers was All City Ernie Stafford. The Fremontians ended the season with a 14-4 record, for the best year since 1935.
