,Z . s ,gfv v iv K-LJ 15111017 Published by the students of IOHN C. FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL june, 1948 2 fi-f Dedication . . . The Fremontian this year is dedicated to the Spirit of Fremont High . . . the spirit that boosted us into the Milk Bowl . . . the spirit that makes us a united student body, rallying to every Fremont cause . . . the spirit of our Drill Team, our Band, our fighting squads. A yearbook is a bundle of memories-souvenirs of young times, young ideas, young friends-all wrapped up, ready to revive with the flip of a page. We of the staff hesitated a bit before dedicating your annual to something as intangible as spirit After all, we said, Can you dedicate a book to something you can't hear, or feel, or see? But look: Can't you hear it? Listen to the rooters, cheering themselves hoarse at the game! Hear them Rah! for the player who needs a lift! . . . Don't you feel it? Ever been to a Fremont Forum-a Student Council meeting-a Sports Nite-a school dance-a peppy aud-call? And haven't you seen it? Watch the stage crew bending under the weight of the risers-the earnest grunts of the teams in practice-the looks on the faces when the ball sails squarely between the side posts! Spirit intangible? Maybe-but it packs a wallop that reaches every one of us here at Fremont-from big wheel to little cog! And in the following pages we have tried to recapture some of our Fremont Spirit for your pleasure . . . ., Af2.i,x A Z, 1:E?:5,M,,TU:W da , X ,K NN. ist... 0-5.453 3 Q. BackfieldfPaul Brakebill, Tom Henderson, jim Haley, Nishon Karamardian. Fremont's 1948 edition of gridiron gladiators romped through a somewhat successful season as they copped five skirmishes and dropped two, but they had their ups and downs as the season progressed. With only a few weeks of practice under their belts, the Cards romped to an easy 24-0 scrimmage win over Poly. Nishon Karamardian paced the Scouts' victory as he tallied twice on long runs, and was the main offensive spark. Bill Hirsch and Paul Brakebill also popped into the scoring column. With one win already under their belts, the cards met Dorsey in their first practice joust, and were rudely upset. l5-l3. Milan Magdalik was a ball of fire in this fray as he scored one T.D. and set up the other, which Ronnie Hicks scored. The Road Detectors bounced back from the Don loss to thump H.P., l5-6,. Chuck Shaw, All-Southern Half, scored one touchdown, and Louie Crisci chalked up the other. Roose- velt opened the Cards' league play and were waxed I9-6. Hicks raced 31 yards for one score, Dick Von Ravensberg scored the second on a pass from Magdalik, and Crisci tripped I6 yards for the final tally. Next came Washington in the game of the year, and the Cards were Crushed, 34-6. Crisci scored the Lane Ascertainers' only touchdown of the day. After the Washington debacle, the Scouts climbed back into the win column by tripping Manual, 9-0. Shaw scored the Cards' one T.D., and Earl Roberts got credit for the safety. The cards clinched second spot in the Dixie Loop by bouncing Icff, 2l-0. Wayne Haas broke into the limelight by scoring twice, while Crisci tallied once. In the final fray of the year. the Scouts thrashed L.A., 7-0. Magdalik scored the game's only touchdown. A ,.f ff ,Q - 1 ry Ag gf .Fx 5 Y f , Ty X N f ff!- T. 'B' Football The Bee's had a good season, which they set up by defeating Poly and Dorsey in their practice games. They went on to win all their league games until they were waterlooed by the L.A. Romans, I9-0. Still -the Tannerites managed to take the league, since Los Angeles lost a few games and managed only to tie the Roosevelt Roughriders for second. loe Russo, Frank Rodriguez, lack Corrigan, and Carl Swanson developed into exceptional ends and helped a great deal in marking up the score for the team. loe Lingrey, quarterback, and Dennis Hummel. center, made a good pair in passing and receiving. Other names. like Loar, Champion, Malkess, and Spatz-in fact, the rest of the team-should not be overlooked, for every man contributed to the final victory.
