Hlhe New Frontiern was a term so much in vogue during the short administration of President John F. Kennedy, from 1960 to 1963. It conjured up images of new technology, new worlds and new visions. It meant new hope for the poor and disadvantaged,and it meant a set of ideals clustered around the concepts of peace, civil rights, space exploration and a better life for all of us. One imagines that those same feelings were felt by the pilgrims at Plymouth Rockg the pioneers starting out on their conquest of the Hwild Westug or those who lived through the great world wars that ravaged our world in the twentieth century. At John F. Kennedy High School in 1963 we made our mascots the rockets and choose kelly green and white as the school colors. Everybody knows that green symbolizes spring and white symbolizes purity,0r in this case ideals. Appropriate colors for a school whose spirit was founded on the ideals of Hlhe New Frontieru and whose youth represents the eternal spring where new ideas are born that will, in time, mature into leadership, moral principles, and education. As we celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of John F. Kennedy 1 High School,maybe we need to review where the school got its name but more importantly why that name was chosen. President John F. Kennedy was the personification ofa great era that came and went too quickly. But did it go or is that dream still there? Are the ideals still goals for us to achieve? Is Hlhe New Frontieru something we still hope to explore? The future is still ahead of all you young people at Kennedy High dreams and wishes for a better world will School. The sacrifices, continue to be part of your human agenda. While many things have happened in the last twenty-five years, the most important things are still ahead of you. Good luck and best wishes .
