The l983-84 Cross Country Team was one of the biggest ever, they had an increase from last year of twelve people. All the hard work they put in pays off one way or another, whether Ribbons or Relationships. The hard work definitely paid off in ribbons for Malcom Keife who came in first in metro, first in Sub Sections and placed third in Sections. Malcom was elected the teams' most valuable runner. The guys came out in full force with a full Frosh., Soph., and Varsity teams. Unfortunately the girls were numbered and didn't do quite as well. Cross Country 22l

The Cougars ended the season with an overall record of 2l-IO, ranking them seventh for the majority of the season. Placing first in the Woodland Invitational Tournament, Kennedy was led by tournament MVP John Black, and all tournament team selections LaVeIl Clay, Ron Williams, Eddie Johnson, and Jomo Nash. Lacking height, Kennedy relied on quickness and proven ability. Leading the team in scoring was 6 6 center Ron Williams, averaging I5 per game, and grabbing I3 rebounds. Penetrating in on the offensive attack were forwards LaVeIl Clay and Jomo Nash, each contributing I3 and IO points per game respectively. On the perimeter of the court were John Black and Eddie Johnson, providing effective ball handling and key defensive plays. Fellow starter Howard Cole added offensive strength as well as superiority to the Cougar onslaught. At the season's end the Cougars exceeded most peopIe's expectations by beating top ranked Highlands and advancing into the semifinals of the T.O.C. With many returning players and a fine J.V. team, Kennedy has a season to look forward to next year. Congratulations team on a great season!
