r. joseph Gizinski Superintendent of Schools There is one lesson that I hope each of you have learned and experienced. That is, that there is a price tag on human liberty. That price is the will- ingness to assume responsibilities of being a free people in a democratic society. The payment of this price is a personal matter with each of us and is not something others can pay for us. It means an involvement on our part in all activities of our society, an expenditure of our energy, time and often other sacrifices. To let others carry the responsibilities, burdens, work and worry - while we share only the benefits - may be a very human impulse, but it is likely to produce undesired consequences. Like physical activity is necessary to the human body to keep it healthy, involvement in a democratic society assures its continuity and the preservation of our freedoms. During the difficult times at the birth of our Nation, John Quincy Adams summarized it very well when he said, Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. Are you willing to pay the price? Are you making proper use of your free- dom? v l l 4
