Mississippi, Master Chief Turner attended Saints College and entered the Navy in 1976. He completed Recruit Training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida in 1976. He attended Radioman Aw School and International Morse Code Operators School at Naval Training Center, San Diego, California. His first tour was onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY CCV 673 from 1976 through 1980. During his initial sea tour, he completed two Mediterranean Sea deployments and one North Atlantic. In 1980 he attended Radioman C-77 School in San Diego, California and Satellite Communication School at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In February 1981. Master Chief Turner reported to Naval Communications Telecommunications Area Master Station, Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia as the Tactical Circuits and SATCOMM Operator Supervisor.
