deputy Air Wino ttommander Captain Lyle graduated lrom Auburn University in 1976 and was designated a Naval Aviator 13 January 1978 at Reeville, Texas. Upon completion ol A-7E initial training, he joined Attack Squadron 66 aboard the newly commissioned USS DWIGHT D. ElSENll0WER tCVN 691 and completed lkes iirst deployment to the Med in July 1979. Ile completed subsequent deployntents to the Indian 0cean and tlte Nort.h Atlantic belore reporting to Attack Squadron 174 as a ERS instructor. In 1984, Captain Lyle returned to sea duty as Strike 0perations Dlliccr lor Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group THREE in San Diego, Calilornia. While assigned to CCDG-9, he completed deployments to North Pacilie aboard the USS TEXAS tCGN 391 working lor the Rattle Ioree Air Warlare Comntandcr and the Indian 0cean!Mediterranean Sea aboard the USS ENTERPRISE ICVN 651. Following transition training in the EA-18 aircralt in 1987, Captain Lyle was assigned to Strike-Eighter Squadron 82 aboard USS AMERICA ICV 661. While with the Marauders, he served as Dperations and Maintenance Diiicer, completing deployntents to the Med, Indian 0cean and North Atlantic. During his tour, his squadron won the 1989 CGMNAVAIRLANT Rattle Eiliciency Award. In January 1990, Captain Lyle reported to SIIAPE, Belgium, lor joint duty in support oi military operations within the North Atlantic Treaty Urganization. Ile served as a planner within the Nuclear Dperations and Plans Division. Eront 1992 to 1995, Captain Lyle served as Executive Dlticer and Commanding Dliicer oi Strike-Eighter Squadron 83 aboard the USS SARATDGA tCV 601. Ile completed two deployments to the Mediterranean, including Sarah final deployment in 1994. Prior to assunting duties as Deputy Commander, Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, Captain Lyle served as Air Dperations 0iiieer lor Commander, Carrier Group SIX aboard USS AMERICA tCV 661 deployed to the Mediterraneanflndian Dcean. Captain Lyle has accumulated more than 3,500 flight hours and 860 carrier arrested landings. Alllwllllli MHSLGI' Ghiei Master Chief Petty Officer Prank R. Turnbull was born in the Bronx, New York on 31 May 1949. He entered the Navy in March 1969 and after completion of recruit training, attended GM A School in Great Lakes, illinois. His first duty station was USS LEAHY tDLG 161 from 1969 to 1971 where he made two Mediterranean deployments. During the second deployment he was transferred to USS RICHMOND K. TURNER tDLG201 for recommissioning in Bath, Maine. ln April of 1973 he was transferred to the inactive reserves and returned to New York. He was assigned as a drilling reservist with Reserve Mobile Construction Battalion 13 where he was a battalion armorer. After four years with the Reserves he returned to active duty and was assigned to USS COONTZ tDDG 401 from April 1977 through March 1979. Upon completion of NATO Sea Sparrow Missile System C School he transferred to USS SEATTLE QAOE 31 for 18 months and then deployed to the Indian Ocean on USS AMERICA tCV 661 until December 1981. ln February 1982 he reported to his first shore duty at Naval Guided Missile School, Dam Neck, Virginia as a C School instructor, where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer on 16 Sept. 1983. After completing shore duty, he transferred to USS KIDD QDDG 9931 as leading missile Gunner's Mate from March 1984 until July 1989. While stationed on USS KIDD he made a Mediterranean and a Persian Gulf deployment. ln 1989 he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and transferred to Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group EIGHT where he made two deployments including Operation DESERT STORM onboard USS SARATOGA tCV 601. He was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in 1992 while deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. Returning to shore duty in 1993, he was assigned to Fleet Training Group Detachment Norfolk VA. asa Small Arms Instructor. ln 1995 he was accepted into the Command Master Chief program, and after graduation from the Senior Enlisted Academy he reported to Pre-Commissioning Detachment GONZALEZ as the Command Master Chief. After commissioning of the USS GONZALEZ tDDG 661 he was transferred to the staff of Commander, Carrier Air Wing Eight. Master Chief Turnbull has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and mrmerous unit and campaign awards. 11,9 I' 34 COC
