HII' WIHH UDIHIIIHHIIBI' Captain Joseph J. Capalbo graduated lrom Worcester State College and was commissioned in 1976. He completed llight training at Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi, in April 1977. His early career includes duty with VE-121, VE-161, VX-4, VEA-125, VFA-131 lPlankownerl and VIA-106. Stall assignments include Bureau ol Naval Personnel as VAXVEA Air Combat Placement Dliicer and Assistant Aviation Captain Detailer. In December 1990, Captain Capalbo reported to Carrier Air Wing EIGHT Stall as the Air Wing Strike Dperations Dliicer in support oi operation Desert Storm? In March 1991, he reported as Executive 0lIicer ol VEA-15, assuming command ol the VALIONS in June 1992. In January 1994, Captain Capalbo assumed command ol the West Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron, VEA-125, which he commanded until assuming duties as Deputy Commander, Carrier Air Wing EIGHT in August 1994. In December 1995 he assumed command oi Carrier Air Wing EIGHT. Captain Capalbo participated in combat operations in Libya in 1986, Iraq in 1991 and Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995. He has accumulated over 4,500 flight hours and over 1,000 carrier arrested landings. Captain Capalbos awards include the Meritorious Service Medal I2 awardsi, Air Medal lStrike!Elight and individual with Combat V l, Navy Commendation Medal I4 awards one with Combat V l, Navy Achievement Medal I3 awardsl and numerous campaign and unit awards.
