Commanding Dilieer Following graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1970, Captain Fahy was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1972. Following A-7E training in Lemoore, California, he reported to VA-22A in Dem .her 1972. During two extended deployments to WESTPAC on board USS CORAL SEA tCVA 431, he participated in Operation Frequent Wind, the evacuation of Saigon and rescue operations for the SS MAYAGUEZ. ln July 1975, he reported to VT-9 as LSO and Standardization 0fficer. From December through May 1979, he served as an instructor at the Naval Academy and earneqi his Master's Degree in Administration irom George Washington University. Next, Captain Fahy reported to Commander Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN embarked in USS FDRRESFAL tCV 591, completing two extended deployments to the Mediterranean. lle then reported to VA-105 as a department head and embarked on board USS CARL VlNSON tCVN 701 for the ships inaugural around-the-world cruise, as well as a iirst-ever deployment ol a Navy A-7E squadron with the Fleet Marine Force Pacific at MCAS lwakuni, Japan. ln April 1985, he reported to Commander, Tactical Wings Atlantic as Dperations 0ificer. He then reported as Executive Diiicer of VA-46 and assumed command in November 1988. Captain Fahy became Deputy Commander, Carrier Air Wing SIX in May 1990, and participated in Dperation Provide Comfort while embarked on USS FDRRESTAL. Captain Fahy completed the senior course at the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode lsland, and Armed Forces Staff College prior to taking command oi USS KALAMAZ00 tAOR 01 in March 1992. ln September 1994, he was assigned as Head, ln-Service Aircraft Carriers Programs on the staff of the Chief of Naval Dpcrations. ln September 1995, on short notice, he deployed on temporary assignment to Dperation Deny Flight!Deliberate Force in support of NAFO combat operations over the skies of Bosnia, and introduction of peace keeping ground forces. Captain Fahy assumed command of USS .I0llN F. KENNEDY tCV 671 on 15 July 1990.
