C MM NDER R UISER DESTRO YER GROUP TWU Rear Admiral Grant A. Sharp, a native of San Diego California attended the U S N l A d g g g . ., r Q , t a V g ava ca emy, graduating in the class of 1960. He has served in numerous surface ships and has commanded USS DUPONT iDD-941l, USS KING KDDG-411 and Destroyer Squadron THIRTY-TWO. Rear Admiral Sharps early assignments included destroyer duty, postgraduate education in Monterey, California and several staff tours. Following a tour as Executive Officer of USS CONOLE IFF-10561, he served as Commanding Officer of USS DUPONT KDD-9413 from March 1971 to September 1972. During this period, the Dupont was awarded two consecutive Battle Efficiency E s and received the Marjorie Sterrett Battleship Fund Award for the ship achieving the highest state of battle readiness in the Atlantic Fleet. Rear Admiral Sharp was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations from 1972 to 1976, and subsequently graduated from the National War College in 1977. From August 1977 to june 1979 he assumed duties as Commissioning Commanding Officer of USS KING QDDG-411. USS KING completed AAW modernization, commissioned and deployed to SIXTHFLT in this time frame. Rear Admiral Sharp was then assigned to the General Planning and Program Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations KOP-902 and in November 1981 he assumed command of Destroyer Squadron THIRTY-TWO, participating in both the GRENADA Operations and operations in support of the Multi-National Force, Lebanon, until December 1983 when he assumed duties as Chief of Staff to the Commander Sixth Fleet. Selected for Rear Admiral in 1984, he was assigned as the Director of the Program Resource Appraisal Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations IOP-911. In july 1986, Rear Admiral Sharp assumed duties as Commander Cruiser Destro er G TWO. Among his decorations Rear Admiral Sh y roup , r arp wears the Legion of Merit ithree awardsi, Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal itwo awardsj, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Navy Unit Commendation.
