D.l Workmen, working in the White House, today discovered several valuable letters written byPresident David H- Hostvedt, the 40th President of the U. S. These were mostly personal to some of his friends and classmates. Here are some excerpts from the letters. ..........uCoach Jerry Foth is using the Leiser Atoms Bus Lines to trans- port his team to the Hose Bowl. Of course, Illl be present along with Ado miral Bayome and General Zurfluh. On the way out I am going to stop and see Ron Hamilton in his new dream house. Before I leave I have to sit for a portrait by'Carol Hanneman and Pat Schneider. I was sorry to hear that Larry Seebruck electrocuted himself last week. Four special nurses, Jana nette Beamish, Jean Hinz, Margaret Osterkil, and Joan Vechinski from Mayo Clinic and seven doctors tried to revive him, but it was no use. Your Pal, David H. Dick Gavre was recently elected King of the American Hoboes while Bob Hutkowski owns a chain of dime stores. Frances Koch is directing the All Girl Orchestra with Jean Schier as a vocal soloist. Margaret Gilson is the vocal teacher for the little tots singing in the famous St. Petersburg choir in London. In the near future, Dave Kassing will begin uopaint the yellow line in the middle of our highways. Do you remember Lorraine and Roberta? They are both celebrating their Golden wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks. Marjean Hegg is the organ teacher at Augusta Lutheran College.BunnyYonko is the chief stewardess in the Pan American Airlines, while Rosalie and Eunice are both old maids. Dick pushed Ronnie Zn into it one days We all believed in the Easter Bunnyv so the teacher brought some Easter eggs, which were very good. In the first grade, we had the big thrill of riding the Hiawatha from Port to Wisconsin Rapids, Our parents were there to meet us and bring us back to schooln In this grade we were very serious-wwe learned to read and say our ABC's, But it wasnlt all work for we had a playhouse in which we spent a lot of our timer The fire truck came to school when we were in second grade and gave us a rider We all hung on for dear life, although we were really go- ing slowu The teacher sat in front with the driver and blew the siren all the wayu We all had our pictures taken near the fire trucks It was also during this year that we made cookies. During the arithmetic period we all had mad races with the flash cardsn When Christmas came around, Santa came and gave us candy In third grade we studied the Indiansn In order to get all we could out of this subject we went in the woods in back of the school and made teepeesr Every recess found us in these woods playing Indiansm Pat So swallowed a marble in this grade and turned all the colors of the rain- bowr She was turned upsidesdown and shaken until the marble dropped on the floorn - In fourth grade Bon H, was locked in the paper closet and he couldn't get outs We made masks with flour, paper, and watero We gave two playsn In one playu Marjean was the princess and Ron Hr was the heros It all ended with Ronnie making Marjean cry with the use of onionsn The second play was one of Hollandc Barbara was a little Dutch girl, who came on stage with a little wagon pulled by Bob Mageels little dogq Inside the wagon was cheesey which at the end of the program was shared by the classn f In fifth grade we had our tonette bandn Although we werenvt pro- fessional we could play a few simple piecesr In sixth grade we went upstairs for classesena very important position in the gradesu In seventh grade we lost one of our class membersuQBob Magee, The class presented him with a billfold to remember them byw The class took atrip to the mill during this yearn That day Norman fell in the creek and Pat So was chased by four dogsi' In eighth grade we studied the Revay were writing long themes after itg We also studied the Constitution and the Constitutional Conven: tions For a class party we had a hay ride which lasted for two hoursc As Freshmen, we were one of the largest and most active groups enrolled in the JEHSU The Freshmen started out by welcoming three new members: Harry Swanson, Jannette Beamish, and Bob Schultzo Carol Hanneman came back after'atwo years absence? We had a very interesting class party after long, hard planning. The theme of the party was, mThe Mardi Grass W The night of the party found the students arriving with floats and dressed up in costumesu Prizes were given to the three best floats and costumes, In Core 10 we read Ivanhoe, studied world and ancient history and read Socratesl philosophy of learning by asking questionsi During this yearn Barbara had an awful crush on the core teachereeMrm Parksn The Biology class did many interesting thingseesuch as cutting up frogs and etce This ended with Frances Koch crying because she felt sorry for themo In this same class we had a few snuff chewers: Bunny, x Lorraine, and Eunicec With the end finally in sight, we entered our Junior year and found Roberta had joined our classs After the long-awaited treasures, the class rings, finally arrivedg wewere seen proudly displaying them by hold- 4 ing up our ring hand as often as possible. l The class worked together and transformed the auditorium into the woods in which Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs livedo We elected Bon Hamilton as King and he in turn chose Pat Schneider to reign as Queeno Bunny Yonko was chosen by the football team to reign as the Homecoming Queene We won first prize with our gratestones for A.F, for Homecoming decorationso We came back to school in '50 and found we had a new member in our class--Dave Kassing, After a week we soon had one more new member-Q Bob Hutkowskiu The beginning of the year found the Seniors deciding the theme of the Senior Bello We chose Frances Koch to reign as Queen in the winter- land of the JEHSQ She chose Frank Rayome to reign as Kingn After our work in corey the semester tests cameg very strange and difficulta All the time we were thinking of ways to make this year's Papyrus the best overs UNDERCLRSSNEN --v-nn-:nu--b.. The Junior Class welcomed many new members and Mr. Kowaleski, our new core teas cher. In Corel we studied the colonization of America. We gave individual reports. We read the nove1,' House of Seven Gablesn by Nathaniel Hawthorne. We also sketched many of the characters in this novel. The Juniors received their class rings. This was an exciting event. We have been busy this year working on our Prom which was April 28th. It looked as though we wernlt going to have a Prom, but with the assistance of Miss Johnson and Miss Best and the coeoperation of our class, we had a very successful prom. The theme was HHar- bor Lights.H Our core teacher. Mr. Kowaleski, was draftedin the Army and we we1comedMr. Koch as our new core teacher. The Junior Class has experienced a very successful and busy year. They have been one of the best working classes in school. All year long when ever you walked into their room they always had a beautiful bulletin board display. When the basket- ball tournament came around they had a display of this years basketball team record. Some of the eighth graders booklets that were sent out by the Nekoosa Bank really look clever, and someday they will be able to refer back to this priceless information. We had many ideas but the one that got the most votes,was the two AdamseFriendship boys knocked out, who were Chuck Hepp, Mike Backus and Donna Secore was the nurse. We used Deanna Keyzer's wagon for the float and decorated it out to her farm after school. The seventh grade decided to have our class party February 26th at 7:30 in the gymnasium. We had three committee's which were entertainment, refreshments, and clean up. We opened the party with a quiz program. Then we had ballons with pieces of paper on which a certain prize was written. We had to break them without using our hands. Then we danced and closed the party by square dancing. They practiced at Coach Kurz house shooting his moving deer. They also played archery golf on the football field. When the snow came they decend- ed into the school building and practiced ID the gym. The representatives are elected by the members of classes and clubs. The Council started out this year with just the representatives of the clubs and classes. They in turn elected Frances Koch, Judy Parvin, and Margaret Gilson to fill the offices of president, secretary and treasurer respectively. They worked on the revised constitution this year. They also worked on and had charge of all the Homecoming arrange- ments. They ordered three movies and charged a small fee for them. They were as follows: The Last of the Mohicans,'3-March 6, Yellow Sky'3-April 17, and HScudda Ho, Scudda Hay'5 -May 1. The purpose of this organization is to give members practice in discussing and taking action in many of the problems which arise throughout the school year. They realize that the problems of making the school better is the students' problem as well as the tea- chers'.
