SENIOR CLASS This has been a big year in every way for the seniors. Soon after school started they began visiting industries in the county in preparation for writing their essays. Publishing the newspaper, editing the annual, and preparing for commencement exercises have kept them busy the entire year. Classwork has demanded more serious attention from them as they face college and business careers in the immediate future. What in the world is it? Senior Class Officers Miss Agee, sponsorg Lois Koger, secretaryg Tommy Mitchell, treasurerg XVilfred Fulclier, vice-presidentg Cloy Muttox, presiclcntg Mrs. Goodman, sponsor. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Well here It IS 1957 the year we hate looked forward to for so long and thought would never arrlve It seems Just yesterday that 163 of Us entered the elghth grade on September 2 1952 That IS one year none of us w11l forget Just be mmng to know each other and to know our school Wlth John Austln as our presxdent and MISS Eleanor K1rk MISS Joyce Claypool MISS Peggy W11l1'1ms Mlss Lucy Watson and Mrs LaVergne Woody as our sponsors we chose Make the best for the commg years our motto blue and Whlte our colors and the carnatlon our class flower We returned ln 1953 as freshmen and elected Chuck Robertson pres1dent Mrs EISIG Brammer MISS Nancy Ballard Mrs Beatuce Goodman and Mrs DIXIE Burrage were our sponsors We settled down for our flrst year of hlgh school work whlch we ended w1th a grown up party We agaln elected Chuck Robertson our p1es1dent when we returned in 1954 as sophomores Our sponsors were MISS Sara Murr Mrs Elsle Brammer Mrs Bertha Coates and Mr Harold Estep We were very p1oud when Betty Edmonds a mem ber of our class won the tltle of Mxss Bassett 1n the beauty pageant We pre sented the play Oscars Other Half 1955 found us happv and care free Junlors wlth onlv We chose Mxss Cleo Mrs Ann December the senlors to push us around Rodger Mayes as presldent and Agee Mrs LaJuan Burgett and Patteson were our sponsors On 14 and 15 we presented the play Q18 Stranger ln the Nlght under the d1rect1on of MISS Cleo Agee and Mr Wayne Bowman We went to work to P3156 money to g1Ve the senlors a banouet and a dance of Whlch we vsould be proud We ordered our class rmgs and elected B111 Coll1ns S C A presldent for the 1956 1957 SGSSIOH We elected W1l fl ed Fulcher edltor of the Timber Tmts and Anne Vestal edltor of the Ben Growl Rodger Mayes got honorable mentlon 1n All State Football and made the All State Basketball team Elghty one of us made the most of 1956 our last year 1n hlgh school wlth Mrs Beatrlce Goodman and MISS Cleo Agee as our sponsors We chose Cloy Mattox as class presldent Sybll Stevens won a trophy for the school on an essay about Free Enterprlse Rodger Mayes and John AUSt1D were chosen co captams of the football team Wllfred Fulcher and Rodger Mayes of the basketball team John Austm and B111 Coll1ns recelved trophles for Most Valuable Player 1n football and Syb1l Stevens recelved the 1957 Good C1t1zen Award B111 Coll1ns and Loulse Young Jele Homecommg Klng and Queen We presented the senlor play A Date With a Dream, on March 8 Now the cu1ta1n falls on our hlgh school llfe as we march proudly 1n our caps and gowns before our parents and frxends to IPCEIVG our long awalted d1plomas Our memorles of Bassett Hlgh w1ll always b pleasant ones and a soulce of lnsplratlon as we face the ups and downs of our future luves and assume new respons1b1l1t1es a a 7 1 I ' ' y 9 9 9 ' ' 1 ' . .
