'Thirty-Eight, about to die, salutes you! Contrary to the custom in such cases, and loath as are all members of my profession to establish precedents, only at the bequest of my noble client, 'Thirty-Eight, have I called you together, before her death, to hear her will and to receive her gifts. I was persuaded to this action by the unusual circumstance of my client. I dread to tell you, but be calm, the doctor is here, ready to revive all fainting ones, but he cannot attend to many. Here is my secret, keep it well! A consultation of doctors was called together on the seventeenth of May, nineteen hundred and thirty-eight, doctors who have never been known to fail in their prognostications. They have an- nounced that on May the seventeenth, 'Thirty-Eight will die. My client wishes me to state that, owing to the lightness of his head, caused by the gradual swelling during the last four years, and a heaviness in the heart and other organs, caused by thoughts of parting and over-feasting, respectively, she may have been mistaken in her inventory, but such as she has she gives to you, praying that you may not believe that it is only because she cannot keep her goods that she is generous. So listen, one and all, while I read the last wishes of the now dying Class of 'Thirty-Eight. VVe, the Class of 'Thirty-Eight, being about to leave this sphere in full possession of a sound mind, memory and understanding, do make and publish this, our last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by us at any time heretofore made. First, we do direct that our funeral services shall be conducted by our friends and well wishers, the faculty. Only enjoining that the funeral be carried on with all the dignity and pomp our situation in the school scale has merited. ITEM: We will and bequeath to the faculty restful nights and peaceful dreams. No longer need they lie awake through the long watches of the night to worry over the uncertainty of whether this one is doing her night work or whether that one will have her math in the morning class. It has been a hard strain on them, for Seniors are said to be at all times and under all conditions ditiicult to manage, but they have done their duty well and verily, now shall they have their well-earned reward. ITEM: We will and bequeath to Bassett High School one more restful summer through which she will have time to recuperate from the eight months of strain she has recently been through. ITEM: VVe will and bequeath to our successors, y39, our classroom and assembly seats. In this are included all chewing gum and trash which may be found in or on the seats. ITEM: We give to the Freshmen and Sophomores the following advice, accepting which will send them to glory: Copy '38-learn to work if not to wing development comes sooner through bear- ing failures than success. It isn't fun, but still look at '38 and be encouraged. ITEM: The subjoined list will be recognized as entailed estates, to which we do declare the Class of 'Thirty-Nine the real and rightful successors: First, the individuals of 'Thirty-Eight will and bequeath their own personal property, as follows: 1. TOP HAT NIGHT CLUB Were you invited to the Top Hat Night Club? If you weren't, you certainly missed the time of your life. We went to this Night Club March 25th at the Riverside Hotel. Tickets, which were issued a week previous to the club, had on them their table number and seat number and invited them to the Club at 7:30. Every person had to present his ticket at the door in order to enter the Night Club. The dining room carried out the color scheme of green and white. The favors were black and white top hats filled with peanuts. The programs, which were black and white, had a very artistic top hat design on the front.
