Growth visible in Tempe lt seemed like no matter how often you got around the valley you just couldn't keep up with the changes, especially in South Tempe! Construction 'was constantly in progress. Kwik Stops were popping up on nearly every other corner. On Ray Road, the new Laguna Theatres became a popular place to go on weekends. One of the many new shopping center opened up on Chandler and Kyrene which included a much needed Burger King for our area. But our area wasn't the only growing one in the valley. Fiesta Mall also underwent some major redecorating. Dillards and Robinsons remodeled their stores. Speaking of malls, a new mega-mall is in the planning stage. Superstition Springs is expected to be the largest mall in Arizona and is to be located in East Mesa. The Tempe Public Library opened a new main building. it's a really beautiful building but it's so big that l can't find my way around l said Marne Gasca about the 13 million dollar facility. The old library building, which is on the same lot, is going to become The Tempe Historical Museum to diplay antique firetrucks and reconstruct scenes from the Old West, etc... This new museum will open in 1991. The rapid growth of our area was apparent with the construction and building and is predicted to continue into the 90's. . .
