Moone y-Corrigan-Day-Fuerst-Gorman-Kil bane- Pokorny=-Sullivan-Sweeney-Zona-Mrs. Donnelly- Messrs. Horvath=Kovach-Lazzaro-Matia-McCaffery- McGettrick=Novak In tribute to the memory of the Rev. Father William J. Murphy, S.J., beloved Dean of Men at John Carroll University, for twenty-six years. WHEREAS, Seldom has a man so profoundly guided the footsteps through life of so many men and left such a lasting impression upon the minds of the thousands who knew him as did the beloved Dean of Men of John Carroll University, the Reverend Father William J. Murphy, S6 Uap Ziael WHEREAS, When Father Murphy arrived in 1930 at what was then St. Ignatius College, he joined the Philosophy Department and also served as Athletic Director, bringing to this school a scholarly mind trained and disciplined at St. Louis University, where he received his B. Aw, Me. Aw, and Ph.D., and experience in teaching by virtue of his tenure at St. Johns College, British Honduras; and WHEREAS, More than any other faculty member in the school's history, Father Murphy was directly associated with John Carroll activities, and as Dean of Men for twenty-six years he was responsible for the Carroll Boosters Club, Carroll Union, Band, Glee Club, and Drama Society, but no matter how busy his many responsibilities kept him, Father Murphy always found time to counsel those who needed a word of encouragement; therefore be it RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 1L03rd General Assembly, adopt this Resolution by a rising vote thus expressing our sorrow at the passing of this wonderful religious leader and educator of a'‘University that has contributed so many ‘Men of Garroll tosthis legislature. sands best scmmtne ts RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the John Carroll University Student Center, Cleveland News, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Cleveland Press, Adopted March 3, 1959 My ATTEST KL CLERK —
