Earth The earth is the basic part of life, It is always there. I can touch it and feel it, and I know that all things grow from it. I can see it. and the knowledge that it is under my feet gives me the confidence to take my first steps-thus I learn how to walk. I can smell the warm fertile richness ofthe earth, and I know that it will always be my home. I can never escape the earth. Knowledge is the earth. And, All things that help us find the path to the earth are the things ofearth itself. A branch takes its life from the tree. A flower buds from the stem, And, knowledge flows from all things. We learn throughout life: Life is learning. The day that we stop learning is the day that we shall see the end of our life.

He who sows in Patience, will reap his fill in Harvest Books, cluttered lockers, busy learn- ing people, all paint the scene for days at Carroll. Teachers' smiles and frowns, papers, pens and collected ideas come together to form a situation where nine hundred ninety four young people can endure each other for eight hours a day. The noisy hallways are the result of joy, sorrow, thinking and emo- tional explosions. Amid noise, confusion, happy and depressing moments, there comes time each day for learn- ing, growing, study patterns, and the develop- ment of knowledge. Like brick on brick teachers and students depend on one another. The process of knowing and under standing is slow, taking time for ideas, culture, from what generations before have learned. The academic life is a foundation to build lives upon. Perhaps it seems studying and acquisition of knowledge is tedious or too great a burden. But life ambition, great or small in the eyes of the still are sought by those who care. Through this shines hope for new opportuni- ties after graduation, following the slow path of maturity and new horizons met by stu- dents will result from the preparation in aca- demics at Carroll. When it comes to teaching business law or coaching athletes or Dashing smiles, it's difficult to decide which Coach Bob Hayes does best. 'f-Q...-af Q-...fi Despite her own jovial manner, Sister Mary Catherine Flynn manages to impress on her students that class is not all fun and games.
