1958-1959 in Review This has been a good year and one full of accomplishments. The music department has been active from the start. In October the band took part in the Halloween parade, and it also played at many of the football games, promoting good spirit. At Christmas time the whole department presented Christmas in Many Lands. Later a seventh grade com- munity sing and a Winter Concert were g iven. In February a district choral musical program featured all groups in the city in an exchange of talent. As this yearbook goes to press, plans are being made for the annual Show of Shows in May and for participa- tion in the gym circus. In the district band and orchestra festival at Fullerton Junior College, the Fremont band placed third in its division. One of the most important duties of the Leadership class is to rate the campus each day. The rating of the campus gives an incentive to keep the school grounds clean. In addition to planning the many assembUes that were presented during the year, the student body officers kept the show cases up to date. In the field of sports Fremont was second place in the county football conference. The year ' s outstanding players were Bill Burns, Ronnie Moreno, David Morales, Bob Sutton, Bob Storey, Rod Mumma, Richard Langson, Mark Oden, Warren Bizzle, and Art Rosales. The basketball season began with Fremont ' s winning the junior high tournament and the county championship, and later it placed second in the city championship. Brookhurst GAA was host to the junior high schools at an annual ninth grade play day. At this event Fremont won five out of seven of the games, losing only one volleyball and one soccer game. To Susan McBurney , seventh grade art student, goes the honor of designing the Fremont handbook. Other honors in art go to the winners in the PTA poster contest. They were Vern Van Maanen, first prize, Carol Symonds, second prize, Bette Comstock, third prize. Most popular features of the school year were the talent assemblies and the school dances. Sadie Hawkins Day, Christmas, and the Valentine dances were enjoyed the most. There are over a dozen clubs in Fremont this year with an enrollment of around 300. Each club has its own constitution and adviser. One very active group is the Future Teachers Association which is working for affiliation with the national FTA. The largest organization in the school is Frehonso, Fremont Honor Society, with a membership of 200, March was an exciting time for all ninth graders when they completed their registration for AUHS. Ninth graders also took the Iowa Tests and the Differential Aptitude Tests while the eighth graders took the Constitution and American History tests. Every month outstanding boys and girls are presented with Kiwanis Junior Colonist awards. During the first five months of the past year these Junior Colonists were selected for this high honor: Linda Shigekawa, Pete Gilker, Goergia Ingerson, Tom DeHart, Judy Joyce, Ron Moreno, Richard Cotton, Renaute Gillick, Paul Frank, Roberta Shipley, Jim Eckles, Kathy Hadley, Billy Kerns, Nancy Pedlar, Bob Hatherly, Susan Fischle, Ronnie Walters, Teri Brown, Tim Wampler, Sharon Mims, Jim Dena, Bonnie Schroeder, Vince Yamasaki, Janice Parslow, Gary Lind- strom, Kathie McLaughlin, Pete Dinkier, Terry Estes, Cheryl Murdock, Bill Burns.
