You will remember FRIENDS . . those with whom you worked in classes or in the canteen or on the baseball field You will remember the FADS the records that you listened to the styles you wore the way you wore your hair You will remember your TEACHERS the rough time you had under Mrs. So and So . the funny little quirk that teacher had or those horrible tests that all came at the same time Each year at John C has some features that are similar — but each year develops its own uniqueness. Every year, some old faces are subtracted, some new faces added. Each year we attempt new things, testing ourselves, trying out the new person we are constantly becoming. 2 4 5 ; i 1978 - Tee Shirts were the rage ... The Council works with Mr. Lohr and the Board: its constitution states, The purpose of this organization shall be to serve as the voice of the student body in both student affairs and student activities. This year Council sponsored the Homecoming Dance and a sock-hop. It organized and participated in the Haunted House at the Halloween Carnival, and organized and sponsored the Academy's first tennis team. Under the guidance of Mrs. Janis Blocker, students plan, write, and tape weekly broadcasts each Wednesday night, which are then aired on Sunday afternoons at 3:00. These shows present academy news, focusing on current activities and offering special features on members of the student bodv. The show also features current musical favorites. The local club is affiliated with the South Carolina Scholastic Broadcasters Association and attends its annual convention. Local officers are Wendy Hiott, president; Brantley Beach, vice- president; and Miles Sanders, technician. Skits by cheerleaders, football players and faculty are dramatically presented to delight the entire academy. A queen is selected from among the faculty entrants to preside over the festivities. Weldona Humphreys won the coveted crown in 1977! 85 The fourth, fifth, and sixth grades competed delivering their own original cheers — the fifth grade won! The 'Cheerleaders' in the top picture impressed everyone with their beauty and grace. The varsity cheerleaders proclaimed to the school that they were sweet on the team — and turned themselves into all sorts of confectionary tid-bits. On the night of the Big Game, 1976 Queen Kinloch Howell returned to crown her successor: ROBIN ROBINSON. Activities 95 96 activities mm POWDER PUFF, 1977 The third annual Powder- Puff game between the girls of the twelfth and eleventh grades, assisted by their sister classes, took place on a cold night in December. Ann Wimberley, quarterbacking a strong senior coalition, led her group to a 18-14 victory over the junior group whose quarterback was Melanie Arney. Steve Wimberley and Chuck Lemacks coached the winners. Perry Hiott and Joey Smoak were junior class coaches. activities 97 Each year since the Academy's birth, the Parent-Teacher Organization has been a very active financial supporter of the school. Its continuing project since the inception of the school has been a Christmas Bazaar. The funds from this and other PTO activities have provided for the academy many of the extras that make life for the teachers and students more enjoyable.
