Innocent and unaware we entered the seventh grade. Enthusiastic and eager we wandered through the halls. Time went by quickly and soon we found ourselves in the eighth grade. There we were anxious to be on top, but time seemed to move so slowly. We seemed to be continuously busy learning facts, cold facts. The middle years are always the most trying. Finally we made it - ninth grade at last. It has been a most exciting year planning our graduation and getting prepared for high school. Soon we will be in another new school with different surroundings. We start all over again, but this time we won't be frightened. Instead we will know how to act and get along because of the sociable environment of junior high. We will have better study skills and understanding because of the teachers who helped us. We will know how to make decisions and how to express ourselves because of our experience in student government. This is all because of our school years at John Burroughs Junior High. In closing, we, the student body officers, would like to thank all those who elected us to office and all those who helped us plan our school activities. Holly Morrison Student Body President, Fall Fifty years will bring us to the year 2024. What will our school be like? The teaching methods will probably be different. There might be an individual layout for each class. In history, the class could be arranged to illustrate the different forms of govemment so that they can be compared rather than stud- ied through books and lectures. In English the class might devise a new language and compare its com- ponents with English. There will be more technological aids for learning. Possibly there will be a more relaxed relationship between students and teachers. They may even call each other by their first names and visit to socialize. They may try to make the classroom more comfortable by installing couches, lounge chairs and desks instead of the uninviting desk-chair combinations. Basically the students in fifty years will be like the students of today. Most of them will wantmore privileges: an open campus where the students could leave whenever they deem it necessary, student participation in the instruction of classes, and a student choice of teachers. Some students will be bored with teachers, or feel that they are criticized too much. Others won't be satisfied with school. There will be those students who won't just settle for passing their classes, who are at school to leam something and will look twice at themselves before saying that school is boring. In fifty years aside from materialistic changes, the search for the answer to the mystery of life will go on. The longing for knowledge will continue to inspire young people. Hopefully in fifty years we will have reached most of the goals we are striving for now: togetherness, a clean environment and most of all a chance for everyone to achieve regardless of the color of his hair, the shape of his ears or the manner in which he worships God. So in 2024 many of the experiences will be different, but some things will be the same as in 1974. David Lightner Student Body President, Spring
