1 ln the spring of last year, the city of Burbank observed the passing of a traditional American institution. Dogged by bad luck and -mounting expenses, the circus rumbled out of our lives for the lost time. It had closed before it ever openedf lt seemed as thoughthis were prophetic, for iust a few weeks later, in another part of the country, the last of the great American circuses ended its final performance under the big top. ,In com- memoration of this hardy band of stalwart troupers, we have chosen the theme of Circus for this 1957 Akela. We will attempt to record a portion of the rich heritage that is the circus. 1 ' '
