THE GREAT SPIRITS g g YN . S f-Z S.,-NJ 1 After several weeks of life at Burroughs, Little Joe became somewhat mystified as to how the students were organized into groups, if they had a leading body, and if so, what the duties of this group were. Upon his return he was asked where he had gone and what had happened to him. To this he replied, In Pinkawanka-Suk- oash, my home village, great spirits lead tribe members in all activities. Them make rules, get good grazing grounds, and gov- ern tribe. Me wonder who are J. B. tribe's great spirits, so me go visit-um leaders. Me find out who spirits are. Them are the stu- dent body officer spirits, Braves' league spirits, Squaws' league spirits, and sing and chant spirits. Also committees in tribe smoke-um cornsilk peocepipe during coun- cil powows, make big decisions and better tribe. You do good work.
