wwlhwnuli iv ff: A Q cf' flwfi -1 My-r gs. Sounds of joy ended abruptly on January 28, 1986 when space shuttle Challenger exploded moments after launch. Live television coverage brought the scene into our homes, stunning us when we were at our most comfortable. We were there, fe ling the agony of the moment. As students, we were especially touched by the tragic outcom of this mission because, along with the six crew members, was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher and the fi st ordinary American to attempt the journey. Mrs. McAuliffe, Michael Smith, Judith Resnick, Ro iald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis and Francis Scobee went on this expedition-like the explorers whose lives and exploits we study in our history texts-to enrich our knowledge of the universe. Now they are gone, but all of us have one thing in common: the memory of these seven heroic people will live in our hearts forever. We Mourned And We Will Remember A deep sadness moved our graduating class when we lost Dwayne Gilliard. His friend Gillian Crosby remembers Dwayne as a good person to talk to who was always there when you needed help. He was sweet and kind. Dwayne was an achiever and had formulated his plans and goals. Gillian says that he was not the kind of person to dwell on the past, he looked to the future. We miss him.
