Administrative Patricia Kobetts Principal Dear Graduates: America is a nation of immigrants. They came from Europe, Africa, Asia and they still come. These people, representing a proud heritage, came and enriched our country. They brought their cultures to their new home, and made their past part of America's future. Through their work, their struggles and their fight for a better life, they built a better America and a better world. Your graduation marks the twentieth anniversary of John Bowne High School. Over the past twenty years many students representing different ethnic backgrounds, needs and goals, came together to work, to learn and to earn a diploma. Their multi-cultural, multi-lingual characteristics created a positive force in developing strong programs which allow all students to maximize their potential. Each succeeding group of students createda special magic which acted to rejuvenate and renew the staff and allows us to remain young. In exchange we have offered you opportunity, growth and success. You must now aspire to reach your career goals, achieve to your fullest capacity, and work towards finding solutions to the many problems besetting our world, for you represent the measure of the past and the hope of the future: Poets to come! Orators, singers, musicians to come! Not to-day is to justify me and answer what I am for, But you, a new brood, native, athletic, continental, greater than before known, Arouse! for you must justify me.
