She is the instructor as well for Home Economics-Foods. Mrs. Helen Banks is the instructor for Home Economics-Clothing, The Home Economies course in Bartram has more things than cooking and sewing. In cooking class many other areas are offered such as: child development, understanding of oneself, family and friends, career development, budgeting one's paycheck, housing, home management, and inte- rior decorating. Concentrating centers, however, upon food preparation, meal planning, and nutrition. ' . In sewing class, there are also other economic areas offered, handicrafts, personal and social development and child development. xi 'ix '. 'R as , GCIAL DIE John Bartram's Social Studies department is I 'fiheaded by Mrs. Suzanne Sankowsky. She feels there is a great rapport among the twenty-seven teachers in her department. Three new courses have been added to the social studies curriculum: ecology, anthropology, and career exploratory, a non-science career on col- lege level. They are taught by Mr. DiBartolomeo, Mr. Wartman, and Mrs. Pierucci, respectively. The other courses offered are: Afro-American history, American history, social science, Black experience, and economics. The purpose of Social Studies is to bring an awareness of the cultures and lifestyles of people and countries throughout the world to the stu- dents, and to inform them of the many different types of governments.
