W , R' HX6' X, K., 1,1-2... 'faQ't?iaf,f1,. xii: ,.,.gv1,+C'-,pq 'f 9321-v PURPLE POWERHOUSE . . . Coach Nat Crowley looks over four of his men who supplied plenty of the dynamite to help blast the way to an undefeated grid season. In front, left to right tackle Frank Julian, All- Eastern Maine end Ed Lambg the dangerous-looking pair in the background are All-State backs Billy Mc- Cann and Joe Cushing. WORKING THEM OUT Nat Crowley diagrams one of his tactical maneuvers which helped to fool his op- ponents during the '48 cam- paign. 1 I ,S No Work 000 second quarter Cushing intercepted a Waterville pass at mid-field to start a scoring march that ended in a touchdown pass from Cushing to Ed- gar Lamb. Although the Crusaders played their hearts out, they were unable to break the deadlock. The Fighting Irish, however, had an ex- cellent record, completing their sec- ond undefeated season in three years.
