Flowers absorbing drama Q lt 3 53 L it ,, A 3' if - v - . s. EW .mm .l 's. Flowers for Algernon consisted of many short scenes called blackouts. The reason for this technique is that it followed Charlie Gordon, a retarded person, from his childhood to his adulthood. Sometimes the play flashed back on Charlie's childhood as he remembered it as an adult. The Gold Room Theatre QC-214i stage was enlarged for this production, creating six different acting areas. Senior, Eric Hull, did research during the eight weeks of rehearsals. He observed retarded people and studied their reactions, physical appearance, etc. This helped him to create an extremely realistic portrayal of Charlie Gordon. Ann P. Zimmerman was the female lead, Alice Kinninan, Charlie's kind-hearted teacher, who encourages him to have the experimental brain operation enabling him to achieve a genius l.Q. lopposite pagel Eric Hull struggles with pencil and paper as the retarded Charlie Gordon, lleftl Kirk Smith, Dolnna Horne and Greg Newman Dortrav Charlie's past, lbelowl The bakers, Aaron Pruitt andChaz Weigler, discuss problems, lbottom leftl Robert Carpenter and Susan Zimmerman portray Mr. and Mrs. Nemur. 1 Flowers for Algernon
