Closer to home, Cleveland also paid the price of haired when Collinwood erupted with racial disturbances which ended in a student dead and wasted tax money to maintain additional police protection. Adams kept its cool during these weeks of shame. On the national level, Nixon left a record of shame in Watergate and resigned in disgrace leaving the presidential office to Gerald Ford. Students had taken their rightful places in classrooms with renewed faith that an education would make them effective leaders of tomorrow. Proving in a purposeful way they had regained pride in themselves and their school. 15 LEFT PAGE, FOOTBALL: J. Radford. RIGHT: G. Hancock. BOTTOM: J. Bell, E. Kregh The Administration is proud that Adams has improved this year in all areas, especially friendliness to each other and pride in our school. The main goal of the year was to decrease tardiness and failure due to absenteeism. Tardy students were held in Room 127 to sign in. Although very unpopular with the students, the policy did cut tardiness from 600 to 200 during the first two months. Mrs. M. Turner Mr. L. T. Davis Mr. W. E. Stevens Mr. W. V. Pitts Mr. R. A. Industrial Arts Department Opens Doors for Females INDUSTRIAL ARTS DEPARTMENT gives our students here at John Adams a chance to express themselves in many ways such as: auto, printing, woods, metal, mechanical drawing, and blue prim reading. Some students have it in blocks and others just for a period or two. Students find that taking this class lets one work with his or her imagination, learning how to become more creative and at the same time having a lot of fun. Some students who have graduated have continued this career by going to college or finishing up at a trade school. This class is also for young ladies. It teaches them to learn not to depend on a male to do all of the jobs that they think are hard or were meant for us. MR. J. WHITE MR. K. AUGUST MR. J. CLAY MR. J. CODY MR. C. COTTON MR. S. In an attempt to upgrade writing skills, the Army conducted an all day workshop on newspaper writing, an ad-layout, and makeup. Bea Vincent, fashion editor of the Cleveland Press spent a week at Adams during the newspaper strike and taught interviewing and feature writing as well as presenting newspaper careers. In this organization there is representation from a wide variety of clubs. Many of the outstanding female students are members of the Girls Gym Captains Club. They have always proven to be an essential part of John Adams High. One of the high points in the Gym Cap’s season was the exciting volleyball game against the female faculty. Choral Club Strives for Excellence The John Adams Choral club gives an annual Winter and Spring Concert. They sang in the National Honor Society Induction in February. In March they sang in the Music Educators National Conference. One of their biggest events of the year was the honor of having 40 students sing in the 1400 voice choir of 12 schools in January. The choir sang with the Cleveland Orchestra, directed by Lorin Mazel. Bringing the curtain down on over 30 performances, the Choral club strives for excellence. Otta M. Christy, Director ROW 1: A. Photojournalism Adds New Dimensions to ‘Rebelry9 Preparation for 1975 Rebelry began in May, 1974, as students attended four workshops to study layout, organization, advertising and exchange ideas to make this year's Rebelry the best yet. In October, a three screen media presentation of student life at Adams blew the minds of seniors and juniors who watched the 500 slide show and signed up for 600 books. Increased to 152 pages, Rebelry encompassed the whole school to compile the history of 1974-75. Our major pride was that photojournalism students did all the photography - including developing negatives and printing the final pictures. Rebelry is dedicated to you - our labor of love - a book truly written, designed and produced, by students for students. 74 LEFT PAGE, LOWER LEFT: M. Reed. LOWER CENTER: L. Redd. UPPER RIGHT: L. Fashions are no longer completely ruled by fads. Students are dressing in what they feel is right for them. But do high school students put too much emphasis on dress? In January of ”75'' a fatal shooting incident occurred at East Tech, over clothing. According to the Plain Dealer, Lt. George Trammel, of Cleveland Police Department, said Reports of stolen clothes are made fairly often. Guns are brought to school to prevent clothing thefts.
