On December 18, 1970, the Afro-American Cultural Society put on a performance at Richmond Hil High School called People To People, which consisted of dancing, singing, short skits, instrumentals ani poetry reading. The performance was geared to the idea of white students coming to see what blacknes is all about. For all those John Adams students who were unfortunate in missing this excellent show, th Clipper gives you pictures and poetry from People To People. People To People If we do not feel the chain, When it works another's pain, Are we not base slaves indeed, Slaves unworthy to be freed? Step down, white America, let the black poet speak! Must I die, to feel the earth? Must I fly, to smell the air? Must I grow fins, to swim to sea? Must I Be White To Live In This Humanity! Well, I didn't lay down and die, and I felt the earth. I didn't sprout wings and fly, and l smelt the air. I didn't grow fins, and I swam to sea. So black is all l'm gonna be! Times are changing as we can see, They have a new math inthe third degree. White plus White equals one, one race group in size. Blue plus Black equals none, we are not recognized. This is a new math taught to us, and this too is the sum: Black and Black equals nothing, But White and White equals one. We being black can't dig this way and times them both by three, And found if the world tried hard enough Together it would equal unity. But the Society said this could not be If hate remained the hero And fighting continued Soon black and white would equal zero.
