Q' ' iff I -gf 9!illlf'?7!'f ti I final 1. 1 f a ffmiltt J' I kil- THE NIGHT was dark and dreary even though it was only 7 p,m. I hurried along the dark alleys with a quick pace. I had anticipated seeing that movie for a long time, But now I wished I hadn't gone alone. The picture, a blood-curdling mystery, sent shivers up my spine. Afraid to go home, I began to converse with myself. Why am I walking so fast? There's no danger. Look at me, a sixteen-year-old scared of the dark, Relax-take it easy. My steps sound so loud on the cold, hard cement. Theres no one out here but me. The echoes of my walking feet are going simultaneously with the whistling wind. I glanced around and noticed a dark, criminal-like figure luring in the background. I quickened my pace. The strangers steps matched mine. Oh-h. Please. Someone help me! I-I hope he's not following me! The strong wind brushed by and I pulled my coat closer around my body. I continued reassuring myself that the stranger was just going in my direction. Suddenly, the deathly silence was broken. Behind me I heard run' ning steps, I became panicky and started to run. A hand on my shoulder halted my movements. I slowly turned around and be- held the stranger. It was . . . yes! I promptly broke into uncontrollable laughter. After calming myself, I exclaimed, Oh, Father! It's only you! Who were you expecting? Rock Hud- son, maybe? SALLY MEG LEANINGS THE DAY was cheerless and dismal, and as I pushed my way through the great masses of bodies, fenced in on both sides by colos- sal steel rails, my mind began to wander .... I could remember how I had fought those same crowds all day. It was a never-ending battle. Would all of this pushing and shov- ing ever cease? Would I ever see my be- loved friends again??? just then, however, someone stepped on my toe and quite quickly brought me back to reality Qcause she must have weighed at least fourteen hundred pounds!!!j Ouch!! It was during these events that I began to think of how hungry I really was. All of these thoughts ran through my mind as I waited, watching, this ever- mounting crowd, The noise was almost ur.- bearable. Everywhere I turned there was shouting and screaming. The hungry faces beamed at me from every angle. Then, just as suddenly as it had started, the noise stopped. Everyone around me sud- denly seemed to stop talking. Could it be? Ah, yes, now I too understood. Our des- tination was nearing, and sensing this, the tenseness began to mount .... I could see the guard now . . . could it be??? Yes, he was motioning for me to step forward into the cage. So I carefully walked through and began the simply delightful task of ordering an ADAMS SPECIAL!!! EDITH STOLLER
