SHOVING OFF AFTER FOUR years spent in Iohn Adams, the Clipper ship has come into port and we are about to dis- embark. The time has come for us, the graduating class of Iune 1954, to say farewell. We try to say good- bye without becoming sentimental, but as we trace back our wonderful years at Adams we can feel a lump in our throats and tears burning in our eyes. It was just four years ago that we, as eager and bewildered fresh- men, assembled in Memorial Hall and were divided into our respec- tive classes. From that time forward, we started toward our goal of at- taining senior status and long-awaited graduation day. The years were filled with hard work, lots of study, exams, and extra-curricular activities. But these seemed few to the many times we had, and the close panionship with our classmates. Then as the years went on, we became adjusted to the routine. We accepted things as they were given to us. Remember the fun and excite- ment of listening to the G.O. cam- paigns and voting for the one who good com- Twenty-four Rosemary Nodar promised soda in the lunchroorn? Then in the winter term, we cheered our football team until we were hoarse. When Christmas came, we witnessed the wonderful play and Christmas music in assembly. While we were still getting ac- customed to our surroundings, the years were rolling by and we soon found that we had reached that wonderful status of senior. Our many friends, class night, the Prom, new senior buttons, senior day, and finally our graduation exercises will linger in our memories for a long time to come. Realizing that any goal in school cannot be achieved without full cooperation between student and faculty, we derful skipper, Mr. William A. Clarke, assisted so ably by Miss Keller and our many fine officers. These ever- lasting memories and events would not have been possible without their patience, guidance, and under- standing. say thanks to our won- Now as we prepare to embark on a new voyage, it's good-bye from the Class of Iune '54.

CAP AND GOWN IN ALL high schools the highest form ot student life are the Seniors. They have arrived at their last term, a very proud and impressive group. It is very easy to distinguish them from the other students, for they wear the mark of a true senior, the Senior button. During the four year course that they have received in high school their training as good citizens has been furthered to a higher level. Their minds, bodies, and souls have been educated for adult living and think- ing. These are the last days of their adolescence. For now they must pick up their long planted roots and start something new, something which they fear but cannot turn and run from, for it is a challenge for them, and chal- lenges were made to bear. Some will enter college, others will give their talents to business or making a home for a family, but all will look for a place in life. All will want to succeed. Of course being a senior is a most wonderful experience and can never be duplicated in any way. There is the joy of putting together a song and dance for the variety show which occurs at the end of the term. There is the wonderful thrill you receive sitting through your first senior meeting. It's as though you and your friends have found a treas- ure all your own. Nothing can sur- Doris Miller pass the admiration you receive from the lower classmen, upon their learn- ing that you are a senior. Almost immediately you begin to count the days till you will walk down the aisle glancing from side to side at all your friends. You begin to get lumps in your throat every time you pass the spot where the graduation exercise will take place. The day arrives and you are walk- ing down the aisle just as you al- ways imagined, and your parents are proud of you and you feel it right through your newly acquired cap and gown. As you take your diploma from the principal's hands you know it means that from now on you are on your own. As you look to the future for gains, you know you will always remember the people who have contributed a large portion of their lives towards building a steady happy future for you. Yes, you are on your own. Your diploma is the key to life which en- ables you to enter the world of fit beings. Your carefree days are over. A new and wonderful chapter oi your life is about to begin. As you turn to look back at your parents. teachers, and friends your views are changed, for now you are young men and women seeking your place in the book of life. All these thoughts crowd your mind as you stand in cap and gown. Twenty-three
