has been an adviser on the Clipper for 15 years and has found his associa- tion with people on the Clipper very gratifying and stimulating to him as a teacher. He feels it is a real pleasure to have worked with so many boys and girls in publication work over the years. Mr. Clarke likes the way the school is run and the atmosphere in the school. He is very happy to be a faculty mem- ber of Iohn Adams and he feels as if this is his second home. The second person we would like to interview is Mrs. Maxine Stem, the faculty adviser of the Campus. Mrs. Stem was born in New York City. She attended Iohn Adams, received her B.A. from Queens College and her M.A. from Teachers College at Columbia University. Mrs. Stem taught in an ele- mentary school in Brooklyn and then came to Adams. Her favorite sports are tennis and baseball. Her favorite ball team is the Brooklyn Dodgers. Mrs. Stem likes traveling, and has seen much of the United States. She would like to see the rest of the world some day. She also likes foreign films, read- ing, listening to all kinds of music. driving a car, and taking long walks. Her pet peeve is holding the door open and then having the other person leave her with the door in hmid. She also dis- likes discourteous drivers on the road. Her chief hobby is reading. Her favor- ite performers are Lucille Ball, Groucho Marx, and Ray Bolger on television. The first thing Mrs. Stem looks at a menu for is whipped cream desserts. mid won't turn down a good steak or roast chicken. She always wanted to be a teacher. Her ambitions are to play the piano for her own pleasure and for the pleasure of those immedi- ately around her, and to own a good radio-phonograph and a record col- lection. She would like to be fluent in French and Spanish, and to have the time to read half the things she would like to. The attitude of students means a lot in the classroom-if they are earnest, make an effort, and want to cooperate. That means more than if they are able to grasp the work. She dislikes the student who hands copy in after the deadline mid comes in the next day and asks what is to be done. Mrs. Stern has been the adviser of the Campus for almost five years. The only regrets being an English time she teacher is when she is swamped with papers to mark. The art Clipper and Campus is Mr. Robert Steed. He was born in New Iersey. He has attended New York University, State Teachers' College in Buffalo, Art Students League, National Academy of Design, and Cape Cod School of Paint- ing. He was always interested in art and it is his main hobby. He also likes ice skating and tennis. His favorite museum is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Steed's favorite performers are Aline MacMahone, Ethel Barrymore, L i o n e l Barrymore, mid Frederick March. He eats everything under the sun from octopus to squid. Mr. Steed has been in lndia and thinks that the people are friendly, warmhearted, beautiful to look at, like people all over the world, and generous. The country has exotic color mid is roman- tic in architecture. His favorite gripe is the motorcycle jackets or l'Marlon Brando jackets. faculty adviser of both the The photography adviser of both the Clipper and Campus is Mr. Richard Blazej. He was born in New York and he received his degree from Columbia University. He always wanted to be a teacher of math and has always been interested in photography. vl I idduvfv Sr is J X. ffl 1 X . f .f M IH J XLX TNGS LOOK AT it reposing there. Now it moves. Is it alive? Is it breathing? It moves again. What force is driving this object onward? What mystifying power impels this object to obey? Perhaps man will never know. Per- haps it will be another wonder for man to unravel. Wait-it moves again! I can see it move clearly. The contour is more distinct, the color more vivid. The lines move. I know what it is! The secret is out. It's a dozing senior. Edith Goldberg DID YOU ever stop to think how beautiful a tree really is? Let's look at a tree with its shapely body and its dress of bright green leaves. In the summer, she always manages to keep trim, and her overwhelming beauty catches the eyes of both young and old. Although she never has to comb her hair, it is always neat: washed with the rain to keep her looking her very best. In the autumn, she changes her dress from a bright green to a red and tan cover, a perfect match for her brown body. She is always there for people to see and she makes a perfect home for birds to breed their young ones. The next time you pass a tree, stop to look at it and really notice the beauty that everyone seems to take for granted. Theresa DiBernardo THE SKY was dull gray and the overhanging cloud seemed to reflect the gloom in Iim's heart. At last the time had come. Secretly he had hoped that the dawn would forget to break this morning, or that God might somehow overlook this calen- dar day. lim had awakened early. Undoubt- edly his troubled thoughts would not permit sleep. As he lay there think- ing of his past, he wondered just what he had done to deserve this punishment. The gallows itself could not have presented death in a more realistic manner. Automatically his body performed the daily rituals of dressing and eat- ing breakfast. His mind was saturated with thoughts of the fast approach- ing moment. Iim heard the clock strike six, and decided it was time to leave. As he walked through the familiar streets, he noticed the clouds were beginning to lift. Perhaps this is a good sign, he thought, encouraging himself. He was not long in reaching his destination. Nearing the assigned building, his heart began to pound and his body ached with fear. Upon entering, he found that he was early. Another was awaiting sentence before him. Time ebbed on. The moments seemed to numb Iim's mind, as he patiently awaited his doom. A voice was saying, Iames H. Stewart, please step forward. Doing so, Iim was at last face to face with his fear. Time traveled swiftly, though anxiety never faded. A few spoken words, one signature, and it was over. Iames H. Stewart was in the United Siates Army. Elizabeth Ward Eleven
